BFT - SEASONAL CAREER COUNSELOR - MGH ASPIRE SUMMER PROGRAM Aspire is a growing nonprofit organization of the Massachusetts General Hospital. We offer a variety of high quality therapeutic programs and services that focus on helping children with high cognitive autism spectrum disorders and related profiles develop increased self-awareness, social competency and stress management skills. The principal duties of the Career Counselor involve supporting the implementation of the Aspire Internship Program. Aspires Internship program provides workplace experiences for adults with social-cognitive deficits including Aspergers Syndrome, High Functioning Autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Nonverbal Learning Disorder and related challenges. Under supervision of the Internship Program Manager, the Career Counselor fulfills various tasks to help coordinate the program. The Aspire Internship Program operates on three cycles throughout the year: fall, spring and summer. The duration of the fall and spring cycles is 12 weeks and summer is 10 weeks. The Career Counselor is responsible for assisting the Internship Program Manager in the coordinating the administrative and programmatic aspects of the program. Principle duties include:; providing supports to help interns complete the hiring requirements at each respective internship site; assisting with pre-placement and on-going training of interns through weekly seminars; providing on-site and off-site coaching of program participants at their assigned workplaces; providing consultation to employers in order to support the intern in the workplace; assist Internship Program Manager with some employer meetings and trainings; and collaborating in the ongoing refinement of program curriculum. The Career Counselor will assist with the weekly seminars for interns during each cycle. This is a 20-32 hr per week seasonal position in the summer. * Bachelors degree in related field (psychology, social work, OT, PT, or SLP) required. * Masters degree preferred * 1 Year of related experience required, preferably working with teens/young adults/families with Autism Spectrum Disorders 1. Working knowledge of many of these areas of expertise: social thinking, sensory processing, group development, whole child philosophy, behavioral management, and child development. 2. Desire to help ASD individuals develop and maintain social skills. 3. Desire to work with disadvantaged youth and families. 4. Strong interpersonal skills. Desire to work in team-based environment. 5. Program design and development experience. 6. Leadership skills (ability to provide feedback, modeling, and team building). 7. Problem Solving skills (ability to identify problems, recommend solutions, make effective decisions) 8.
