    Job Description

    Summary: Join our team as a Medical Assistant, where you'll perform both administrative and clinical tasks under the guidance of a physician. Your role will include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, coding for insurance, taking vital signs, preparing patients for exams, drawing blood, and administering medications.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Clinical Duties:

    • Collect patient health information, including for children.
    • Administer vaccinations and medications as directed.
    • Record vital signs, height, weight, vision, and hearing tests.
    • Clean and sterilize medical instruments.
    • Stock exam rooms and manage inventory.
    • Follow up on abnormal findings via phone.
    • Perform routine tests like pregnancy tests, spirometry, glucose checks, and PT/INR.
    • Work directly with healthcare providers.
    • Document patient information in electronic medical records.
    • Follow up on referrals and lab results.
    • Apply aseptic techniques and infection control.
    • Comply with quality assurance practices.
    • Maintain inventory and perform routine equipment maintenance.
    • Adhere to legal and ethical standards.
    • Follow risk management and safety regulations.

    Administrative Duties:

    • Schedule and coordinate appointments, including follow-up calls.
    • Understand and follow managed care policies.
    • Greet patients and visitors warmly, in person or on the phone.
    • Keep patient appointments on schedule and notify providers of arrivals.
    • Comfort patients by addressing their anxieties and questions.
    • Maintain patient accounts and update personal and financial information.
    • Enter office charges daily and verify insurance eligibility.
    • Use electronic systems to manage information.

    • Complete assignments on time.
    • Fulfill mandatory education and competency requirements.
    • Follow safety, infection control, and health standards.
    • Demonstrate commitment to personal and professional growth.
    • Adhere to policies and procedures, including attendance and punctuality.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Licensure/Certification/Registration:

    Required:

    • Current certification as a Medical Assistant from one of the following organizations:
      • American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA)
      • National Healthcare Associates (CCMA)
      • Registered Medical Assistant with the American Medical Technologist (RNA)
      • The American Registry of Medical Assistants

    Other:

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) – Health Care Provider certification

    Education/Knowledge:

    1. High school diploma or equivalent
    2. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program * Special exceptions may be considered, including:
      • 1 year of supervised work experience in a medical assisting field within the last 3 years
      • 2 years of supervised work experience in a medical assisting field within the last 5 years
        • These exceptions should be vetted by the Human Resources Director and Department Director
    3. Current BLS certification
    4. Medical Assistant certification preferred

    Technical/Clinical Skills:

    • Microsoft Office Suite: * Word: Basic * Excel: Basic * PowerPoint: Basic * Access: Not applicable
    • Basic knowledge and experience with medical terminology
    • Standard Office Equipment: * Computers * Copier machines
    • Medical Equipment: * BP machine * Spirometry * EKG

    Communication Skills & Abilities:

    • Bilingual preferred (Spanish)

    Compensation:

    Pay Range: $19.5- $27.31
