    THIS IS A FULL TIME POSITION LOCATED IN UPPER MARLBORO, MD PAYING $44,600.00 PER YEAR.

    BUILDING PATHS COORDINATOR COMMUNITY SERVICES DIVISION

    INTRODUCTION

    Building Paths Coordinator is designed to provide a supportive work environment and behavioral adjustment to the work environment.  We focus on specialized training and skills development in specified areas.  Building Paths will prepare individuals for the challenge of community life and employment so that he/she will become a valued member of the community.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Develop and implement the program schedule, activities, credentials, and skills training programs that promote community, self-help, social and employment skills based on the set curriculum.

    Develop employment that ties the strengths, conditions, and interests of a job candidate or employee to the business needs of an employer. Use job carving, self-employment or entrepreneurial initiatives, or other job development or restructuring strategies that result in job responsibilities being customized and individually negotiated to fit the needs of individuals with disabilities.*

    Network and communicate with employers, funders, educational systems, and community resources to provide supplementary support to the skills training program and enhance current curriculum to include possibilities in the area of job tours, volunteer services, and advanced education.*

    Work with the Career Exploration and Development team and individuals to implement their individual plan from DRS, DDA, and other funders as appropriate integrating them into employment, and career development.  This should also include possible participation in job training, internships, externships, and apprenticeship opportunities.

    Provide services as outlined in DRS, DDA, or other funders' individual plans – ensuring goals are implemented, documented, communicated, and progress benchmarks are being met.

    Ensure that the individual needs of each person served are being met and the job matches are designed to be successful with appropriate levels of support and supervision. Utilize customized employment techniques to create job opportunities for people with significant disabilities.

    Utilize Melwood provided vehicle to transport clients during all cohorts.

     Other duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED

    The Program Director supervises the Building Path Coordinator.

    PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

    Must be able to sit 75% of the time; stand/walk 25% of the time; must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull 50 pounds, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach; must be able to speak and hear. Must have good vision, as driving is required.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    HS diploma and two to three (3) years’ experience in workforce development and job development required. Must be certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid, Bachelor’s degree in vocational rehabilitation, social work or related field strongly preferred. Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, have knowledge of the principles of “self-determination” and the individual planning process including job development and retention, vocational counseling and behavior supports. Must have past experience in developing employment focused programs for people with disabilities. Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel to and from sites as necessary for work. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications. Must possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record.  Must be able to successfully pass a DOT physical.
