CORPORATE DEVELOPMENT OVERVIEW:

The team consists of approximately 50 experienced Mergers & Acquisitions ("M&A") professionals with backgrounds in private equity, investment banking and venture capital. The group is responsible for executing inorganic growth initiatives across UnitedHealthcare and Optum, including acquisitions, investments, strategic partnerships and joint ventures. Since 2010, the team has assisted UHG in deploying over $30 billion of capital across 230 acquisitions. Corporate Development also works as a trusted strategic partner to UHG's senior business leaders, completing innovative projects and unique partnerships, as well as serving as a pipeline for future executive leadership.

MERGERS & ACQUISITIONS SUMMER ANALYST ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Mergers & Acquisitions Summer Analyst role provides an opportunity for students to be positioned at the forefront of highly strategic acquisitions and investments for a Fortune 5 organization. Summer Analysts should expect an exciting, fast-paced and dynamic work environment that provides insights into UHG's businesses and strategy, participation in the M&A process, and significant financial and leadership opportunities. As a member of our Corporate Development team, you will see firsthand how UnitedHealth Group is changing the healthcare industry through applying your undergraduate finance and accounting knowledge in our training program, as well as through supporting active transactions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Researching and evaluating potential M&A targets across healthcare sectors
• Building and developing financial models, including, but not limited to, core financial statement projections, valuation (DCF, transaction and trading comparables), and EPS accretion / dilution analysis
• Managing internal diligence teams comprised of operational and legal subject matter experts
• Researching and refining your general understanding of the healthcare industry with a focus on healthcare technologies, services, and insurance benefits
• Supporting team members on special projects (e.g., industry research and new business initiatives) related to developing inorganic growth strategies and facilitating long-term M&A goals

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree from an accredited college / university during the duration of the internship (internships are not intended for graduating seniors).
• Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (3.5 or above preferred).
• Basic knowledge of financial modeling and valuation techniques.
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization (F-1 students with practical training and candidates requiring H-1Bs, TNs, etc. will not be considered).
