Registered Nurse Float Pool (Registry): Full-Time **** A Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) who renders individualized comprehensive nursing care to meet the patients physical, psychological, spiritual, social, cultural and educational needs. The Float Pool RN provides the best possible preventative, supportive, and rehabilitative nursing care to each patient based upon the nursing process and in accordance with hospital policy and procedure. The Float Department RN functions under the oversight and direction of the Nursing Supervisor. Assignment responsibilities with full patient assignment will be specific to PCU, Medical/Oncology, CVSU, Ortho and Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. 1. Performs thorough assessments of the assigned patients on the assigned unit. Assessments include obtaining patient history, assessing body systems, outcomes of treatments and procedures performed and the psychosocial needs of the patient. Assessment of patient family needs during death and dying. Incorporates age-specific factors in provision of care. Performs age-specific nursing assessments, assesses age-specific safety issues (e.g., plans care with frequent breaks for elderly patients, implements appropriate skin care to maintain skin integrity) and appropriately interprets age-specific patient data and responses. 2. Safely and effectively performs nursing procedures and treatments to ensure high patient and physician satisfaction. Maintains sterile and aseptic technique for assigned patients. Follows established nursing protocols. Administers medication following the 5 Rights and meets standards regarding errors. Demonstrates competence in all required competency assessment modules for assigned unit and for hospital-wide nursing competencies. Provide support and care for patient and family during the death and dying experience. 3. Provides ongoing evaluation of all assessments, procedures and treatments. Updates plan of care based on the evaluation. Notifies and consults physician and mid-level practitioner on patient outcomes and status, using effective communication skills. Plans and provides patient education based upon identified patient needs. 4. Documents correctly all care and outcomes of care provided to the assigned patients in the medical record. Receives and follows through with physician orders. Effectively documents updates of the plan of care. Provides a thorough and organized report to team members regarding assigned patient's status through the established unit report system. 5. Directs and oversees care performed by the licensed practical nurse and the certified nursing assistant on assigned unit. This may include performing the care overseen as needed. 6. Transition pool commitment. Meets minimum requirements for hours needed to remain in Transition pool (as per the Float/Transition Staff policy). Demonstrates flexibility in work assignments. Ensures accessibility/communication to help meet staffing needs. Schedules time to be on campus to complete competencies and evaluation in a timely manner as per JCAHO standards. 7. Patient Safety. Ensures and/or implements patient safety measures, reports medical/healthcare errors appropriately, ensures interdisciplinary collaborative team approach to patient care planning, and ensures medications are administered safely. Serves as an advocate for patient safety and patient rights. Demonstrates competence in unit specific patient safety knowledge and skills. Registered Nurse State of Alaska and a graduate of an approved or accredited school of nursing required.
