Learn more at www.multicarejobs.org Position: This Genetic Counselor serves as an active member of a busy general medical genetic practice based at MultiCares main campus of award winning Tacoma General Hospital, Mary Bridge Childrens Hospital, and Mary Bridge Childrens Health Center. The practice currently consists of two medical geneticists and two genetic counselors (one for pediatrics and one for adults). This position is primarily in Adult Cancer Genetics, and involves regular cancer genetics patient care at the MultiCare Regional Cancer Center at Tacoma General Hospital. . The position includes assisting in launching a second cancer genetics clinic at MultiCares Cancer Center at Auburn Medical Center (15 miles northeast of Tacoma). The Genetic Counselor will also provide occasional care to assist colleagues in the pediatric and non-cancer genetics clinics, which include biochemical genetics and general adult genetics. The genetic counselor also participates and contributes to the growth of the MultiCare Genomics Institute. In addition to providing clinical genetics care, the Institutes mission includes incorporating current and emerging genomic and bioinformatics technologies in the health care management of patients in the MultiCare system. This program is being developed in close collaboration with the MultiCare laboratories (Laboratories NorthWest) and MultiCare Health Information Services. Research opportunities exist through the MultiCare Institute for Research and Innovation as well as through the University of Washington. The Genetic Counselor serves the needs of individuals and families in the community affected by or at risk for genetic disease by providing genetic counseling and assisting them in obtaining appropriate medical care. This is a professional level position that requires working independently as well as in collaboration with the supervising medical geneticist. Work situations require intense interaction with patients and families, requiring a service-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills, discretion, and good judgment. Internal contacts include clinical staff and management throughout the MultiCare Health System. External contacts include physicians and other clinicians, community agencies, the Washington State Dept. of Health, and other outside organizations. Minimum Requirements: * One year genetic counseling clinical experience preferred, but recent graduates with top qualifications and excellent references will be considered. * Ability to work with (or learn) Epic (electronic health care record system). * Ability to monitor own continuing education and ensure licensure maintenance.
