  • Responsibilities

    The HEAD OF MEDICAL AFFAIRS (US) will report to the Chief Medical Officer and will be responsible for medical and scientific team and project leadership, KOL engagement and partnership, innovation and industry influence.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Contribute to developing Medical Affairs strategies, plans and tactics aligned with corporate objectives; ensure Medical Affairs team goals are achieved.
    • Build, develop and retain a world-class Medical Affairs team consisting of professionals who can infuse medical and scientific expertise throughout the organization via the projects they work on. Empower team members to make decisions and drive innovation.
    • Responsible for managing and overseeing the exchange of medical and scientific data with physicians, laboratory directors, and other clinical and administrative professionals regarding T2 Biosystems’ products.
    • Work closely with head of US sales to develop tactical plans for Medical Affairs team that’s aligned with corporate objectives.
    • Responsible for reviewing promotional and educational material for accuracy; supporting consultant and advisory meetings; and coordinating grant applications for scientific merit. Work multi-functionally with Quality, Regulatory, R&D, Clinical Affairs, and Marketing to support and guide the design, risk management, quality management, advertising/promotion and evidence generation needed to achieve corporate objectives.
    • Define and develop medical education on T2 testing and sepsis to ensure maximum clinical and economic benefit is realized at customer sites.
    • Oversee and assist as needed with publishing post-market clinical studies, working closely with Clinical Affairs, Sales, Marketing, and other technical teams.
    • Communicate routinely with sales and marketing teams to understand critical short- and long-term commercial goals, and ensure that presentations and communications with customers are in line with these goals and support commercial activities.
    • Work closely with sales and field service teams to ensure that expectations are set properly with clinicians, anti-microbial stewardship teams, and laboratories interested in evaluating T2 Biosystems’ products.
    • Identify and recommend physicians or KOLs as potential participants of advisory boards and speaker bureaus to discuss T2 Biosystems’ products and other medical/scientific topics of mutual interest. Respond to and document unsolicited requests for scientific information regarding T2 Biosystems’ products, including those in development, as appropriate.
    • Convey scientific and medical information to health care professionals to educate them on current topics in critical care, infectious diseases, and diagnostic laboratory medicine, and to ensure awareness and appropriate use of T2 Biosystems’ products.
    • Deliver evidence-based scientific presentations to small and large audiences in a manner consistent with T2 Biosystems’ ethical goals and objectives.
    • Contribute to T2’s publication plan by ensuring publications, presentations, lectures, and posters based on the results of post-market clinical studies. Participate in developing, preparing, and presenting communication materials of study results.
    • Assist in the organization and support of local, regional, national workshops and seminars using key opinion leaders as speakers/presenters and also participate as a speaker.
    • Maintain clinical, scientific and technical expertise via attendance as directed at conferences, technical meetings and symposia, review of scientific journals and partnerships with product and technology experts.
    • Remain on the forefront of the relevant science, competitive landscape and policy including detailed competitive intelligence.
    • Foster an environment that values and encourages candid, and timely feedback relative to performance.
    • Perform other responsibilities as necessary in support of overall customer needs and/or to drive company success.

     

    SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

     

    • MD or MD/PhD with 5-7 years of relevant experience required.
    • Experience working with Infectious Disease and Critical Care physicians as well as Anti-microbial Stewardship Teams and Laboratory Medicine experts is preferred.
    • Prior experience with clinical trials and post market studies is highly desirable.
    • Prior experience in performing or managing clinical trials/evaluations for regulatory submissions and/or market development.
    • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment, and communicate regularly with commercial and R&D team members.
    • Ability to rapidly acquire and/or increase depth of knowledge on sepsis.
    • Ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of T2 Biosystems’ products as well as the competitive landscape in the molecular diagnostics industry.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience writing and publishing materials for peer reviewed publications preferred.
    • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills required.
    • Excellent scientific analytical skills.
    • Computer-proficient particularly in the MS Office environment preferred.
    • Self-motivated, success-oriented and demonstrated collaborative approach required.
    • Travel up to 50% may be required.

  • Qualifications

    Teaching experience at the college level. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations representing a wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities and cultures. Experience with instructional technology preferred.

    Responsible for instruction and facilitating student learning; committed to student recruitment, retention and success; assessment of learning, development of curriculum and use of instructional delivery modes utilizing both traditional and non-traditional methodology.

    1. Teach assigned course which may include day, night, and online courses, as well as at the main campus and extension centers. Classes are to meet on time for the full allotted time.
    2. Establish and promote an effective learning environment that maximize documented student learning.
    3. Prepare, submit and maintain reports related to student learning.
    4. Grading assignments in a meaningful way to promote continued student growth, returning graded assignments to students in a timely manner, and assigning final grades for all students, meeting or beating all institutional deadlines for completion.
    5. Provide educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled and posted times (i.e., office hours) or by appointment.
    6. Encourage student opinion survey completion for each class and then reviewed after summary information available to assist with increasing student success.
    7. Maintain levels of professional knowledge and expertise, including compliance training or hour.
    8. Perform other duties as assigned.
