  • Responsibilities

    Under general supervision, the Pharmacy Technician (Narcotics) will be responsible for maintaining accurate and detailed records for controlled substances and narcotics in accordance with State and Federal laws. The Pharmacy Technician (Narcotics) will conduct daily audits of the anesthesia controlled medication records and contact physicians to resolve discrepancies; assigns and selects controlled substances and narcotics for the Pyxis medstations. Promotes a customer service orientation in the performance of position duties, responsibilities and in interactions with patients, hospital staff and visitors.

    Required Skills

    1. Comprehensive knowledge of Texas State Board of Pharmacy and DEA rules and regulations regarding controlled substances. Flexibility to adjust to changing conditions and various requirements of the position.
    2. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Demonstrated ability to covey information effectively.
    3. Advanced knowledge of pharmacy terminology, calculations, dispensing, compounding, law, and procedures.
    4. Excellent organizational skills.
    5. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with other management team members.
    6. Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment and advanced knowledge to use Cerner and/or other pharmacy computer applications.
    7. Evidence of the practice o a high level of confidentiality.
    8. Highly customer service oriented individual.

    Required Experience

    Work Experience

    • Two (2) years as a Certified Pharmacy Technician.

    Education and Training:

    • High School education or GED.

    Licensure/Certifications:

    • Current Registration for Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
    • ACPE approved Sterile Compounding Certification with a minimum 40 hours of training completed.
    • Subsequent renewal of certifications and licenses required.
