  • Responsibilities

    NeuWave Medical Inc., a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting a Research and Development Engineer Intern. NeuWave was founded by physicians and microwave scientists who believed in a better way to help physicians and their patients. We provide clinically relevant technology that improves patient outcomes, is physician-friendly, and improves economics of healthcare organizations. Microwave energy is a platform that will continue to provide new, innovative solutions for physicians and patients in multiple care areas.

    An R&D Engineer Intern is responsible for their individual project work as well as broader team activities. These tasks include support in new product development, verification and validation testing, design of experiments and test fixtures, and building meaningful relationships with other engineers.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    TECHNICAL (MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL OR SOFTWARE)

    • Work with R&D Engineers to apply engineering design concepts

    • Work with R&D Engineers to setup design of experiments and testing environments

    • Attend engineering and cross-functional team meetings (in-person and online)

    • Establish appropriate statistical testing strategies to ensure adequate safety factors or margins

    • Create or update verification and validation protocols

    • Create test reports using good documentation practices

    • Create tools and test equipment specifications

    • Support and test mechanical, electrical and/or software designs

    • Be familiar with medical terminology, procedures, and instrumentation

    • Promote teamwork during internal and external interactions

    KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    Policies: Know and follow Johnson & Johnson policies and procedures related to work activities performed in area of responsibility.

    Training: Complete training in area of responsibility within allowed time-period. Training is required for changes in existing policies and procedures, for new assignments and for implementation of new policies and procedures. Complete required period re-training in areas such as safety and environmental.

    Safety: Follow all company safety policies and other safety precautions with work area. Promote safety to all associates that enter work area.

    EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

    • Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.

    • Must not be a freshman or a Senior graduating prior to program end date (Seniors must be willing/allowed to extend graduation date).

    • Minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred.

    • Participation in campus/community service activities is desired.

    • Personal computer software - Windows: word processing, project planning, presentation, e-mail, and spreadsheet software

    • Design analysis software

    PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS & REQUIREMENTS

    • Office deskwork - require sitting, walking using phone and computer

    • May lift up to 30 lbs occasionally

    • Office laboratory and manufacturing facilities

    • May require work in clinical environments
