    Experience : 0 Description : Req Number 0022QN Job Description *Only Northwell Health 1199 members are eligible to apply to this Apprenticeship. As part of an apprentice program and under the supervision of a preceptor, you will perform a variety of instrumentation decontamination, sterilization, packaging, and distribution tasks according to established department policies and procedures. 1. Attends training and completes all required assignments of the Sterile Processing Apprenticeship program.prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /-- 2. Participates in learning-based procedures under the supervision of a preceptor: + Receives used trays, instruments and equipment for decontamination. + Dissembles, cleans and sterilizes items according to specifications and/or manufacturer instructions. + Operates washers, sterilizers, ultrasonic machines, steam and ethylene oxide sterilizers, heat sealers, and additional equipment during sterilization process. + Examines instruments and patient care equipment for cleanliness, proper assembly and functionality. + Identifies malfunctioning items, records related information, and promptly notifies supervisor. + Reassembles and packages sterilized items according to specifications and/or manufacturer instructions. + Adheres to instrument count sheets for surgical sets and case carts. + Covers and rotates trays and sets per sterile storage guidelines. + Receives and fills requisitions from system hospital and ambulatory locations. + Performs required duties to maintain a contaminant-free work environment. + Adheres to AORN, AAMI and Joint Commission standards (e.g. biological, chemical and mechanical monitoring) in the performance of duties. + Follows safety protocols to ensure no injury to self/others (proper body mechanics, protective apparel during decontamination procedures, etc.). + Documents and maintains records of daily activities according to department policies and procedures. Qualifications + High School Diploma or equivalent, required. + Successful completion of basic education assessment (Tests of Adult Basic Education - TABE), required. + Ability to lift/carry 25 pounds, required. Manual dexterity, ability to stand, bend, lift and/or reach for extended periods of time, required. + Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbally and in writing) and to apply basic mathematics in the performance of duties, required.
