Graduate Advancement Program (G.A.P) Overview:
The Oncology Graduate Advancement Program at Johnson & Johnson is a comprehensive learning and professional experience at one of the world’s leading health care companies. This program is designed to equip recent post-baccalaureate students with advanced hands-on academic and professional development opportunities in STEM fields, fostering expertise in research and development, and preparing them for further education. The position is a full-time opportunity expected to start on September 1, 2025 and end on May 31, 2026. Scholars are expected to relocate to the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Depending on the project, scholars may be able to operate on a “hybrid model.” This means that you will be asked to report on site 3 times a week and can work remotely 2 times a week. If you are selected for a scholar position, you will work directly with your manager as your start date approaches to confirm your exact schedule.
G.A.P. scholars will participate in two six-week rotations before scholars specialize in a specific functional area and conduct individual research projects under the mentorship of J&J employees. Scholars may participate in the following areas: Clinical Science, Discovery Science, and Translational Sciences.
Job Description
We offer an inclusive work culture that is open, innovative, and performance driven. As a G.A.P. scholar, you will be a member of a clinical team dedicated to the research and development (R&D) of oncologic therapeutics. Selected candidates will be assigned a mentor and will have the opportunity to contribute to clinical trials. This role involves extensive global team matrix interactions with colleagues from several different disciplines and may provide exposure to the execution of clinical strategies and the clinical and operational implementation of complex compound programs in Phase I to III clinical oncology studies.
The G.A.P. Scholar may contribute to Cross-Functional Trial Team (CFTT) activities, including but not limited to developing the clinical trial protocol, clinical trial materials, literature searches and review, medical review of trial data, coordinating completion of clinical study reports and providing support (as needed) for preparation of relevant documents for regulatory filings. The scholar may also collaborate with the Study Responsible Scientist (SRS), the Study Responsible Physician (SRP), and or other project team members in various functional disciplines in monitoring and/or supporting various aspects of clinical trial conduct. Each scholar will have one primary research project and may have additional assigned projects as determined by the mentor and team. G.A.P. Scholars will be expected to present their work to their project teams, the Oncology Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and other stakeholders within the company.
The goal of this program is to provide recent graduates with experience in working in a large pharmaceutical R&D setting and to gain skills & understanding of the science and process of novel drug development. Students will have the opportunity to learn aspects of cancer, diagnosis, treatments, and the mechanism of action behind the emerging drugs being developed in our clinical trials. Students will also receive training on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as part of the Clinical Scientist curriculum, trial specific training, and the clinical database software and medical data review tool.
Overall Responsibilities may include:
Clinical Scientist
Discovery Scientist
Translational Scientist
