    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    OptumCare Network of Utah is a network of local doctors, hospitals and specialists to help patients make well-informed decisions about their healthcare. The Clinical Pharmacy Team provides a variety of clinical services impacting Medical Management and CMS Star Rating quality programs. The PHARMACY INTERN will be involved in initiatives to improve medication reconciliation post-discharge, comprehensive medication reviews, medication adherence, and various retrospective drug utilization reviews for network providers per business needs. The team is comprised of clinical pharmacists, pharmacy interns, and certified pharmacy technicians who complete various functions to successfully meet the operational requirements of each clinical service. The work hours required will be during normal business hours, Monday through Friday. The pharmacy intern will perform all the essential functions of a pharmacist under direct supervision of a pharmacist.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Patient outreach to assess medication adherence and identify barriers. Provide resources when needed, including pharmacist referral, refill reminders, financial assistance, etc.
    • Coordinate with OptumRx staff to ensure members receive prescriptions timely and assist with prescription refill requests
    • Develop physician and member educational initiatives that promote use of formulary alternatives and improvement in measures
    • Conduct medication reconciliation post discharge and comprehensive medication reviews (e.g. MTM-CMRs)
    • Utilize prescription and medical claim data to generate clinical recommendations according to Medication Therapy Management and Retrospective Drug Utilization Review program protocols
    • Provide clinical recommendations pertaining to, but not limited to, gaps in care, high risk medications, compliance and adherence, drug interactions, therapeutic substitution and generic substitution
    • Participate in quality improvement projects and educational presentations to pharmacy staff
    • Other duties as assigned to meet departmental objectives

  • Qualifications
    • Actively enrolled in a pharmacy school program at an accredited university
    • Current and active pharmacy intern license in the state of Utah
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience with Medicare Advantage plans and/or managed care
    • First or second year intern
