    Janssen Research & Development, L.L.C., a Johnson and Johnson Company is hiring a Postdoctoral Fellow, Discovery Sciences to study the structural basis of transport mechanism of Solute Carrier (SLC) Transporters. The position is located in Spring House, PA.

    The new Lead Discovery team is a critical part of the Discovery Sciences (DS) organization in Janssen R&D, and is committed to the delivery of high quality chemical leads needed for the generation of small molecule clinical compounds in all five Janssen Therapeutic Area (TA) discovery teams.  This mission requires deep scientific expertise in a number of disciplines including chemistry, cellular pharmacology, and screening technologies coupled with an ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.  Building on a strong legacy of success, we are currently seeking an outstanding postdoctoral scientist to further our understanding of membrane transporters. 

    The Postdoctoral Fellow will:

    • Have an opportunity to interact with and learn from interdisciplinary teams of talented and experienced colleagues involved in drug discovery
    • Collaborate with Johnson and Johnson’s Lead Discovery biochemists and pharmacologists to design constructs and strategies to express and produce functionally relevant Solute Carrier (SLC) Transporters
    • Employ biochemical and biophysical and structural biology tools to identify and characterize binding pockets of small molecules that modulate the function of these receptors
    • Contribute to the discovery of novel transporter structure-activity mechanisms amenable to pharmacological approaches.
    • Present the results of their research at internal and external meetings
    • Have high impact, first author publications in the field of Biochemistry and Structural biology

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • A minimum of a Doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D.) is required in a relevant discipline such as Biochemistry, Biophysics or Structural Biology.
    • A minimum of 2 publications are preferred for the candidate to be considered for this opportunity.
    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require future sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H1-B status) now or in the future.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of delivering data-based reports in all relevant formats, is required
    • Ability to work individually and as part of a matrixed team is required
    • Candidates must be detail-oriented, highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks, handle tight timelines and deliver quality data
