  • Responsibilities

    The Pediatric Clinical Pharmacist Specialist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care to pediatric patients of El Paso Children's Hospital through integrated drug distribution, clinical services, research and teaching. Essential Duties/Responsibilities The major job responsibilities of this position are pharmaceutical care to pediatric patients in assigned areas of the hospital dependent upon departmental needs and organization, drug distribution support, clinical intervention, investigational drug studies, research, teaching and pharmacy representation on pediatric committees.

    Required Skills

    • Knowledge and experience with UD, I.V. additives and therapeutics.
    • Knowledge of law, regulations, and accreditation standards related to the distribution and control of scheduled and non-scheduled drugs and pharmacy security.
    • Advanced computer skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with hospital staff and patients.

    Required Experience

    Work Experience:

    • One (1) year Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY1) or three (3) years equivalent experience in a pediatric acute care Hospital inpatient setting. Board certification (Pediatrics, Oncology, or Pharmacotherapy) not required but highly preferred.

    License/Registration/Certification:

    • Current Licensed Pharmacist in the State of Texas.
    • Preceptor competent within one year of hire, for existing employees within one year of signing job description.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS).
    • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire.

    Education and Training:

    • Graduation from accredited School of Pharmacy
    • 12 hours of ACPE approved continuing education annually.
    • Maintain competency in unique aspects of drug therapy for pediatric patients.
