Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant - PRN/Registry Weekend Shift
Job Description
The Phlebotomist/Laboratory Assistant is responsible for processing laboratory test requests by collecting specimens and entering required data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and Clinical Information System. This position provides reports and related information to clients, collects and prepares specimens for reference laboratory testing, and performs Point-of-Care (POC) testing as assigned.
Responsibilities include:
Performing venipuncture and collecting patient and occasional employee blood samples in accordance with safety guidelines.
Conducting waived and Point-of-Care (POC) testing, entering and verifying results in the LIS.
Processing inpatient and outpatient lab orders, collecting specimens, and ensuring accurate documentation.
Preparing, packaging, and sending specimens to reference laboratories, and scanning results into the appropriate systems.
Providing professional customer service to patients, families, physicians, and departments.
Assisting with inventory and general clerical duties.
Maintaining up-to-date phlebotomy skills, equipment knowledge, and safety practices.
Obtaining additional non-blood specimens (e.g., throat, nasopharyngeal, urine) as needed.
Remaining proficient in laboratory systems such as Athena, 4Medica, and Meditech.
Qualifications
· Education: High school diploma and an approved phlebotomy program or 4-5 years relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
· Related Work Experience: 2 years previous pediatric phlebotomy experience preferred.
· Licensure/Certification: PBT(ASCP) and/or CLPIB (NCA) programs MA certification- preferred.
· Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
· CPR required: Only certifications issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross will be accepted.
