    Title Nurse Technician - Older Adult Unit, Full-time 3rd Shift Location Greater Grand Rapids, Michigan Area Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time Shift Third Description The Nurse Technician in the Hospital Based Services (HBS) division's Older Adult Program performs the role of physical and emotional care giver to clients who experience mental illness, including dementia and Alzheimer's, within an inpatient hospital environment. On Pine Rest's main campus in Grand Rapids sits our 220+ bed inpatient hospital which includes the 26-bed older adult inpatient unit serving a geriatric population of both men and women. Our Older Adult Program staff are dedicated to providing quality, relationship based care to each and every client they serve in a way which fits the client's needs best. The Psych Tech in the Older Adult Program will at times have responsibility toward medical care of the clients, assisting RN's and other medical staff when the need arises, so in many ways this role is similar to that of Nurse Assistant role within an Assisted Living Center or similar program. Other primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provides a safe and secure environment for patients and staff in both individual and group settings. Collaborates in day-to-day planning/development of patient programming and implementation of programs. May, at times, assist persons served with personal care activities. Is responsible to actively participate in safety management, crisis intervention and prevention. This also may include monitoring, assessment, de-escalation, implementation of restrictive measures, and emergency psychiatric and medical care. May be required to survey, document, and report and all safety repair and maintenance needs. Documents all progress notes, medication administration, and any other relevant information, reporting any immediate concerns according to departmental policies and procedures. Responsible to monitor for and report to the designated staff any potential risk to persons served safety that could lead to an adverse outcome. Other duties as assigned. Position Requirements Education, Training, and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of six (6) months or more post high school education in behavioral sciences or similar experience is preferred. CNA or similar certification is highly desired in this role. One to two (1-2) years of college education in an applicable program such as Nursing, Clinical Social Work/Therapy, etc. is preferred, though not required. Specific skills, knowledge, and abilities: Ability to provide care/service within the scope of: Holding a conviction to express Christs love and compassion to recipients of services, coworkers, and surrounding communities through integrity, stewardship, empowerment, the promotion of diversity, and professional excellence. Ability to provide cultural competent care with a wide range of individuals in a diverse community setting. Requires physical and emotional stamina to deal with physical, emotional, social, mental and spiritual needs of patients/residents. The candidate may be required to have a valid Michigan drivers license and ability access to access Pine Rest Transportation Vehicles for the performance of job duties. With over 220 residential beds across a variety of programs, including treatment for substance use disorders, homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disorders, adults with mental illness, and a program for youth aged 11-18 with extensive trauma histories focusing on trauma treatment and life skills programming.
