LOUIS REGION AND SOUTHWEST MISSOURI REPORTS TO: Lead Navigator POSITION SUMMARY The Outreach Assistant/Intern for Planned Parenthood of Southwest Missouri and St. Louis region, serving the Southwest Missouri area is primarily responsible for educating and assisting individuals during outreach events. The Outreach Assistant/Intern would help educate the public on Planned Parenthoods mission and services, the Affordable Care Act and how to enroll, opportunities for more involvment with the organization as well as what petitions we need signed and why they are important to our mission. This position will engage in grassroots efforts to organize, educate, empower and mobilize individuals who share Planned Parenthoods common goals. Responsible for list-building, outreach, education, volunteer recruitment and supervision through phone, crowd, door-to-door canvassing and online networking. Work closely with the Lead Navigator, Grass Roots Organizer, and other members of the Planned Parenthood public affairs team. Provide guidance to volunteers working on projects, for which the Navigator team is responsible, and assist in administrative duties, and special events. Required physical activities include: walking for up to 3 hours (e.g, canvassing, parades), periods of time outdoors in variety of weather (e.g. canvassing, parades, tabling, etc), lifting and transporting tables and boxes of materials for outreach work, standard office work (long periods seated in one place, on computer and phone). PRIMARY DUTIES PERFORMED * Coordinate, plan and facilitate internal and external community education sessions related to Planned Parenthood and the Affordable Care Act. * Work closely with Planned Parenthood Health Center and Outreach staff to identify and develop opportunities and tools for patient and community education. * Possible attendance at meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions in order to remain current on principles, practices, and new developments effecting the organization. * Respond to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner as well as be able to direct them in the appropriate staff when appropriate. * Interact with pro-womens health organizations/coalitions and other health care organizations/coalitions to implement strategies to increase access to health care. * Recruit, train and mobilize patients and supporters as needed to carry out the goals of the grant (one-on-one meetings, town halls, in-district meetings, phone, mail, social media, etc). * Performs other related duties as assigned by the Lead Navigator, ACA Projects Director, or Director of Public Policy. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS * Interested in organizing/advocacy work or related area. * Excellent writing and verbal communication skills. * Must be computer trained with knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office/Word, the Internet, and relational databases. * Evening and weekend work is required. * Must be committed to inter- and intra-agency team work. * Must be able to keep composure in tense situations. * Must be energetic, creative, motivated, a self-starter, and able to function productively and effectively with a degree of autonomy. * Personal integrity and commitment to PPSLRSWMO mission, values, and provision of services. * Must be willing to do a small amount of traveling. QUALITY ASSURANCE/RISK MANAGEMENT * Documents in legible, accurate English all interactions with clients in corresponding medical records. * Reports any unusual circumstances to health center coordinator and follows procedure as outlined in manual, memos, and other PP documents. * Records accurately, if assigned, all lab results and findings in logbooks and/or computer. * Follows the most recent PPFA/PPSLRSWMO medical standards and guidelines and ensures client is aware of individual follow up plan for medical service. * Audits medical records for compliance with PPFA and PPSLRSWMO medical standards and guidelines.
