Caring for the world, one person at a time has inspired and united the people of Johnson & Johnson for over 130 years. We embrace research and science -- bringing innovative ideas, products and services to advance the health and well-being of people. Employees of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies work with partners in health care to touch the lives of over a billion people every day, throughout the world.  With $81.6 billion in 2018 sales, Johnson & Johnson is the world's most comprehensive and broadly-based manufacturer of health care products, as well as a provider of related services, for the consumer, pharmaceutical, and medical devices and diagnostics markets. There are more than 250 Johnson & Johnson operating companies employing approximately 125,000 people in 60 countries throughout the world.

Calling all big thinkers and world-changers who want to drive their careers forward across more than 250 leading businesses in consumer, pharmaceuticals and medical technology. If you have the talent and desire to touch the world, Johnson & Johnson has the career opportunities to help make it happen.  Janssen BioTherapeutics is seeking a highly motivated candidate to develop a best-in-industry platform for the delivery of biotherapeutics to the brain.  The development of biotherapeutics to treat neurological diseases has been hampered in significant part due to the intrinsically poor permeability of the blood-brain barrier for large proteins. One commonly exploited path for increasing brain penetration of biotherapeutics is receptor-mediated transcytosis.

While current receptor-mediated transcytosis platforms have succeeded in increasing the brain delivery of biotherapeutics, several deficiencies remain. Addressing these deficiencies will be the focus of this project. Within this context, the post-doctoral fellow will have latitude to explore a variety of factors aimed at improving efficiency of transcytosis across the blood-brain barrier.

As a member of the multi-disciplinary blood-brain barrier team, the post-doctoral fellow will learn to leverage their knowledge of blood-brain barrier biology into the design of biotherapeutics.  Your involvement in this highly matrixed organization will provide the opportunity to explore the biotherapeutics discovery process and mAb engineering approaches, while working closely with discovery teams aimed at developing compounds to treat Alzheimer’s Disease.

    POSITION COMPONENTS

The key objective is to use a deep understanding of blood-brain barrier biology to develop an optimized platform for the delivery of biotherapeutics to the brain.  Key responsibilities include:

    • Establishing state-of-the-art in vitro blood-brain barrier models.

    • Exploring characteristics (like avidity or pH dependency) that may contribute to transcytosis efficiency.

    • Developing robust cross-disciplinary collaborations to generate an optimized brain delivery platform for biotherapeutics.

Johnson & Johnson is an Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, national origin, or protected veteran status and will not be discriminated against on the basis of disability.

  • Qualifications

    Candidates should possess:

    • A PhD in cell biology, neuroscience, or related field with an additional 0-2 years of experience in relevant research.

    • A strong background in blood-brain barrier biology, in vitro blood-brain barrier models and endosomal trafficking.

    • Broad knowledge of cell biology, endosomal trafficking and blood-brain barrier biology.

    • Strong expertise working with a wide variety of cell types and cell culture, including brain endothelial cells and iPSCs.

    • Experience in confocal microscopy.

    • General experience with molecular biology, protein expression and purification, in vitro biochemical assays, ELISA, MSD, and cell-based functional assays.

    • Independent, multitasking, multi-displinary capabilites with strong communication skills (written and verbal) are also required.

  • Industry
    Hospital and Health Care
  • Fun Fact
We aspire to be the world's healthiest work force, offering group fitness classes, beach volleyball courts, bicycle desks, and more!
