    The Neuroscience Team at Janssen Research and Development, LLC in La Jolla, CA is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow to research neuropsychiatric diseases. Janssen Research & Development, L.L.C. develops treatments that improve the health and lifestyles of people worldwide. Research and development areas encompass novel targets in neurologic disorders, gastroenterology, oncology, infectious disease, diabetes, hematology, metabolic disorders, immunologic disorders, and reproductive medicine.

    The aim of the Neuroscience Team at Janssen Research and Development, LLC in La Jolla, California is to understand the pathophysiological basis of neuropsychiatric diseases and to develop medicines to treat them.  To this end, we seek an outstanding postdoctoral fellow to develop iPSC-derived neuronal models to study the cellular and molecular phenotypes associated with disease.  The long term goal of the program is to discover cellular disease signatures or phenotypes amenable to high throughput screening.  By interacting with an interdisciplinary team of scientists, the fellow will be uniquely positioned to perform and publish cutting-edge basic science while benefiting from the resources and technologies of a pharmaceutical company.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Design, perform and interpret experiments to elucidate mechanisms of neuronal dysfunction related to mood disorders
    • Work closely with other members of the Neuroscience team
    • Deliver reports, presentations and publications supporting experimental results
  • Qualifications
    • PhD in Neuroscience or a related field is required
    • In-depth knowledge and experience with human iPSC-derived neurons, organoids or other cell types of the central nervous system
    • Experience in methods of determining neuronal function including imaged based morphological analysis, calcium imaging or electrophysiology techniques
    • CRISPR genome editing and/or CRISPR screening experience is highly preferred
    • Experience in transplanting iPSC-derived neurons to mouse brain or in vivo skills is a plus
    • A well-qualified candidate will have conducted their own novel research project and have published in peer-reviewed journals
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must as well as the desire to work in an energetic, interdisciplinary team
