For the past several years, efforts to identify biomarkers for lung cancer development in at-risk individuals have met with limited success. To better understand the spectrum of lung cancer, determinants of its onset and stages of progression, and how these vary among different individuals across the life course, high-resolution genomic and molecular marker data combined with detailed phenotype information from multiple time intervals indicative of healthy, pre-cancerous, diagnosed, and treated phases are needed for longitudinal assessment and patient stratification. To date, no single source of such information exists to inform this type of investigation.

We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow who will work closely with Janssen’s Population Analytics and Lung Cancer Initiative (LCI) scientists to address this gap. The fellow will be responsible for development of an integrated data source and/or integrated analytical workflow leveraging multiple data sources for interrogation of biomarkers of lung cancer risk across the life course, as well as prognostic biomarkers of disease progression. Ideally the integrated database and/or workflow would be used to then identify, for example. the earliest predictive marker of pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions in the lung, biomarker and clinical profiles that define healthy, precancer, and cancer onset, and the genetic variation contributing to changes in individual markers or marker/clinical profile over time.
