At the Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, we are working to create a world without disease. Transforming lives by finding new and better ways to prevent, intercept, treat and cure disease inspires us. We bring together the best minds and pursue the most promising science. We are Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine. We collaborate with the world for the health of everyone in it.

We are looking for an experienced Postdoctoral Scientist to join the Immuno-dermatology area in Translational Immunomics located in Spring House, PA or La Jolla, CA. Remote work will be considered on an individual basis.

Translational Immunomics, Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine uses multidimensional multimodal data from collaborations with world leaders in immuno-dermatology, to bring understanding of molecular heterogeneity across patient groups in disease and in treatment. This post-doctoral role will focus on developing, benchmarking and applying methods to integrate and analyze data from inflammatory skin disease across tissue and blood. Applying multiple computational approaches including data-driven gene co-expression networks, cellular interaction networks and machine learning to integrate insights from transcriptomics, proteomics, genomics, spatial and digital imaging, the scientist will aim to unravel disease complexity and further precision medicine. Once specific molecular stratifiers are built, there will be an opportunity to test model predictions across cohorts from clinical trials, and if successful, could lead Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine incorporate new precision medicine strategies based on this work.

We are looking for a knowledgeable, motivated and collaborative computational biologist with a passion for tailoring therapy to patients for better outcome. The successful candidate will have a high degree of freedom to craft the scientific direction of the project, and it is expected they will drive high quality data publication and presentation at scientific meetings . This position is an excellent opportunity to learn how computational analysis of molecular data can directly impact drug development and precision medicine, while building a strong publication record. Most importantly, we seek someone who shares our belief that human molecular data holds the key to developing better pharmaceutical strategies that will transform the lives of patients.

The holder of this position will be mentored by a highly qualified computational biology leader, with experience both in the industry and academia, and will be embedded in a team of systems biology researchers, including bioinformaticians, computer scientists, and omics platform developers. The postdoctoral scientist will work at the interface between Translational Sciences and key opinion leaders in dermatology. They will be provided access to an extraordinary wealth of data and tasked with using it to develop understanding of heterogeneity of disease that can generate hypotheses that have the potential to inform clinical studies as well as gaining experience in working in a highly productive industrial setting.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Development and benchmarking of data integration methodology
    • Development and validation of translational biomarker strategies for patient stratification in inflammatory skin disease
    • Analytical support for multi-omics collaborative projects
    • Deriving impactful insights and communicating resulting findings to key stakeholders to improve understanding of the inflammatory skin disease biology and the structure of patient populations
    • Accurate documentation of developed methodology and results, for internal dissemination and high-quality publications
    • Taking primary responsibility for drafting, writing and publishing manuscripts from performed research.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • A PhD degree received in the last 0-3 years in a relevant field, related to use of computational or statistical analysis to decipher biology from high dimensional data, including computational biology, computational immunology, mathematical modelling of high dimensional biological data, bioinformatics, or a related field.
    • Proficiency in standard coding-based analytical platforms (e.g., R, Python, etc.).
    • Documented ability to analyze single cell sequencing data.
    • Documented experience in predicting molecular interactions from data or modeling complex biological systems.
    • Fluent in written and spoken English.
    • Good communication skills.
    • Permanently authorized to work in the United States and will not require sponsorship at the time of hire or in the future

    Preferred:

    • Experience in immune-dermatology or a highly related field.
    • Experience in methodologies for data integration, network/pathway analysis, genomics, statistical modeling, machine learning methodologies and their application to molecular, clinical, pre-clinical and health outcomes data for identification of predictive biomarkers for patient stratification and precision medicine.
    • Academic/industrial experience using computational biology to discover biological insights from molecular data.
    • Previous post-doc fellowship experience

The anticipated base salary for this position is $95,000 but will be based on candidates program year, discipline, degree and/or experience.
