Janssen Research & Development, L.L.C., a division of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies is recruiting for a Postdoctoral Fellow specializing in Mucosal Immunology located in San Diego, CA.

Dysfunction of the intestinal epithelial barrier has been implicated in the pathogenesis of multiple inflammatory diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and psoriasis. Despite the well-established connection between barrier dysfunction and diseases, there are currently no robust methods to identify patients with barrier dysfunction in the clinic and no approved therapeutics specifically targeted to promote barrier function to treat disease. We are seeking a post-doctoral fellow to investigate mechanistic drivers of barrier dysfunction, aiding in identification of biomarkers of disease phenotypes and of pathways that can be targeted to promote barrier health.  

The post-doctoral fellowship responsibilities will include:

• Utilization of in vivo animal models, in vitro epithelial systems, ‘omics data, and creative thinking to drive forward this project centered around the intestinal barrier.

• Validation of findings in relevant human diseased tissues/samples.

• This position will also provide access to industry leaders in inflammatory diseases and potential opportunities to collaborate with world-class academic labs.

QUALIFICATIONS

• PhD in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or related field required.

• Experience in a wet lab with tissue culture required.  

• Experience in animal handling/dosing preferred.

• Experience with flow cytometry and with large datasets (e.g. RNA sequencing, proteomics) preferred.

• The ideal candidate will drive investigations into intestinal barrier function by independently planning and executing experiments with scientific rigor while engaging in critical thinking and robust scientific discourse.
