    We are seeking an outstanding Postdoctoral Scholar, Immunology (Translational Sciences, Immunomics) to be in Spring House, PA or Cambridge, MA, under the mentorship of Dr. Matthew J. Loza, PhD, Director, Johnson & Johnson.

    Translational Sciences and Medicine (TSM) is an integrated group of scientists composed of a clinical Translational Medicine (TM) team which conducts early clinical development and experimental medicine studies, and a Translational Sciences (TS) team which uses human based data and tissues to support the end to end portfolio. TS has a broad remit stretching from support of discovery with human data to support target selection, through development of novel decision- making biomarkers for early phase clinical trials, target centric indication sequencing and prioritization, and biomarker support of regulatory filings. The group has expertise in biomarker development, disease biology research and in the application of immunology and data science technologies to support drug discovery and development.

    The candidate should be passionate about applying their computational biology skills to respiratory research, particularly for asthma and COPD. The candidate would be part of the Immunomics group, which provides computational biology needs for the Immunology Translational Sciences disease area teams. Activities include partnering with the Translational Sciences Respiratory team as well as Discovery and clinical study teams to mine preclinical, clinical, and molecular data to characterize molecular pathways of interests, patient endotypes and develop and validate patient stratification hypotheses and biomarker-based endpoint strategies translated into clinical assays. Furthermore, the candidate will partner with cross-functional teams to engage in interactions with external experts and academic institutions to advance the respiratory immunology portfolio.

    You will be responsible to:

    • Identify relevant ‘omic datasets from literature searches, internal resources, and collaboration networks for internalization and processing
    • Plan and perform data analyses of biomarker and clinical datasets related to asthma and COPD, including but not limited to RNAseq, single-cell RNAseq, and proteomic data.
    • Independently interpret scientific literature to design, perform, and analyze data to define new experiments and studies for the progression of projects.
    • Collaborate with a cross-functional team across and within academia and industry.
    • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at scientific meetings.

    Required Education:

    • Ph. D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, a related field, or relevant experience with computational biology with a Ph.D. in Immunology or related field. Ph.D. to have been completed within the past 3 years, or to be completed within the next 6 months

    Required Experience and Skills:

    • 4+ years of proven experience
    • Strong background in computational biology and ‘omic data analysis, with fluency in R-programming.
    • Highly motivated and capable of driving projects forward independently with minimal daily oversight.
    • Strong planning and experiment coordination skills with the ability to multitask in a fast paced environment.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills working with diverse colleagues,

    Preferred Experience and Skills:

    • Familiarity with immunology and/or respiratory diseases is preferred.

    Other:

    • This position is preferably based in Spring House, PA, with consideration for basing in Cambridge, MA for outstanding candidates, and currently has the option to follow a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week working on site and 2 days per week working remotely. (No fully remote option available)

    The anticipated base pay range for this position is $77,000 to $124,200

    – Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year

    – Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year

    – Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year

    – Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
