The Cardiac Catheterization Lab is an invasive procedural unit that provides diagnostic and interventional services. There are 4 labs: 1 bi-plane x-ray, 2 single-plane x-rays, and 1 single plane x-ray unit on a mobile gantry. Nurses provide direct care during procedures, working closely with physicians to administer sedation, respond to hemodynamic changes, and assist with procedure progress. The patient populations served range from outpatient to critical care, with treatment for both acute conditions and chronic conditions. The lab primarily serves the adult population, but also has a growing pediatric congenital population. The procedures performed range from routine diagnostic tests for stable outpatients to emergent life-saving interventions directly from the ER. These procedures include but are not limited to right and left heart catheterizations, percutaneous coronary interventions, congenital heart studies and repairs, structural heart interventions, transplanted heart biopsies, and diagnostic or interventional procedures for the renal arteries and peripheral vasculature. This unit thrives on interdisciplinary teamwork. The academic environment provides ample opportunity for learning and skill growth, with regular in-services and lectures to advance the team’s understanding of our patients, our equipment, new technology, and new protocols.

M10E and M4TCU-Located under the Pauley Heart Center Division, the Cardiology Progressive Care Unit includes M10E & M4TCU and are viewed as one group/unit in 2 separate geographical locations. M10E has 28 beds and M4TCU has 8 beds for a total of 36 beds. The unit is a fast paced progressive care unit rich with opportunity for learning. The population includes patients with advance heart failure with vasoactive infusions, post cardiac transplant, coronary artery disease, dysrhythmias and procedural patients from the cardiac catheterization lab and the electrophysiology lab (pacemaker placement, Internal Cardiac Defibrillator placement, Direct Current Cardioversion, & Electrophysiology studies). Our highly engaged team works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality patient centered care. We support a positive work environment through the use of shared governance and collaboration.
