The Certified Medical Staff Coordinator is responsible for the professional oversight, coordination and implementation of the procedures for medical staff and allied health initial appointments and reappointments, meeting management, expireables management, and the flow of information from Medical Staff Committees through the Board of Trustees. Assignments are planned and executed with minimal supervision in conformance with established policies, regulations and laws. Reports to the Manager of Medical Staff Services. Position has high visibility with the Medical Staff Committees as well as the Board of Trustees and requires excellent verbal and written communication including the ability to use correct spelling and grammar. Must be comfortable speaking to large groups as well as receiving feedback from large groups. Critical thinking is vital to the success of the position. Minimum Qualifications Include: Skills and knowledge normally acquired through completion of an Associates Degree required; Bachelors Degree preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a medical related setting required. Must attain within three (3) years, and maintain, Certified Professional in Medical Services Management (CPMSM) and/or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) certification. Must show proficiency in MS Word and Excel Echo Credentialing preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Include: Must have considerable knowledge of medical staff services principles and possess the ability to develop and implement methods and procedures for improving and facilitating credentialing processes utilizing automation. Must have cooperative working, leadership and interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal tactfully and courteously with others, while upholding the organizations principles of quality and patient safety. Must have the ability to appropriately handle a variety of problems and situations, sometimes of a critical and urgent nature, and to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information. Must be able to handle stressful situations in a professional manner, possessing conflict management skills. Willingness and ability to work independently with little or no supervision; demonstrated self-starter. Core Job Functions Include: Monitors and participates in all aspects of the credentialing process, including appointment, reappointment, privileging, provisional status, and temporary privileges, to ensure accurate and timely credentialing. This includes collecting and analyzing information, preparing files for the approval process, and ensuring that credentialing and privileging files are kept accurate and current. Supports and promotes the vision and strategic plan of Salem Hospital in a leadership role. Maximizes the use of automation for all processes conducted in the department. Assists in the orientation of new Medical Staff Members and privileged practitioners. Provides professional and technical assistance to the Medical Staff Leadership, including documenting Medical Staff meeting minutes accurately, clearly and concisely in a format compatible with what is expected of a JCAHO-accredited hospital. Working Conditions Include: Frequent sitting, walk-level surface, use of arms/wrist, manual dexterity (grasping/squeezing), & keyboard operation.
