The purpose of the 2320 Registered Nurse, Emergency Care Nursing Training Program is to prepare the new graduate nurse or inexperienced Registered Nurse so that s/he may provide safe and competent nursing care to all patients in the Emergency Care setting. A Level I Emergency Department (ED), Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital provides 24 hour comprehensive emergent, urgent and non-urgent care to 55,000 adult and pediatric patients annually. As the only Base Hospital for the City and County of San Francisco, the ED provides all biotelemetry communications, medical control and medical consultation to all pre-hospital care providers in accordance with the Citys Emergency Medical Services Section (EMSS) Guidelines. Additionally, the ED is also approved as a specialty receiving facility for: Burns, Forensics, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Sexual Assault, Psychiatry, Hand Re-implantation, and Pediatric Emergencies. There are five patient care areas in the Emergency Department. Attending Physicians, Resident Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Medical Evaluation Assistants and Senior Clerks staff the patient care areas. These areas include: Medical Screening, Zone 1 (including four trauma/resuscitation rooms and four exam rooms), Zone 2 (four exam areas), Zone 3 (five exam areas and one private/procedure room), Zone 4 (eight exam rooms, two of which are negative pressure), and a Clinical Decision unit (eight beds). Nursing care is provided in all patient care areas and is guided by the Emergency Nurses Associations Standards of Practice and Core Curriculum. Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse in the Emergency Care Nursing Training Program performs professional nursing duties. Essential functions include: Providing nursing care to acutely ill patients within an assigned unit or clinic; Implementing medical care plans; Directing and supervising the patient care provided by nursing personnel assigned to the unit; Maintaining standard unit activities in the absence of the Head Nurse; and Performing other related duties as assigned/required Minimum Qualifications 1. Possession of a valid permanent/temporary (including an interim permit) California Registered Nurse license; AND 2A. One (1) year of verifiable experience (equivalent to 2,000 hours) within the last three (3) years as a Registered Nurse in acute care OR 2B. One (1) year of verifiable experience (equivalent to 2,000 hours) within the last three (3) years as an EMT-1 or Paramedic OR 2C. Completion of a senior preceptorship in emergency or critical care nursing The above minimum qualifications reflect special conditions associated with the position(s) to be filled. They may differ from the standard minimum qualifications associated with this classification. Condition of Employment: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate: Possession of a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association is required as a provision to employment for all positions. Condition of Employment: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certificate Requirement/Provision: Possession of a valid Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certificate is required as a provision to employment for all positions in this specialty.
