    Assistant Controller – Posting #20649

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Full-time Assistant Controller available immediately in Seattle in the South Park area. The person in this position is responsible for supervising senior and staff accountants. Prepares general ledger information, financial statements, statistical reports, variance analysis reports, and overhead expense allocation. Supervises day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department, including accounts payable, banking services, and general ledger functions.  Work involves scheduling and directing work assignments of clerical employees, and staff accountants. Prepares monthly financial statements in a timely manner, including journal entry input. Maintains detail and explanations for journal entries.

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assists in the preparation of reports to various agencies as assigned. This includes reports to grantor agencies, Medicaid, and Medicare.
    • Maintains information supporting the allocation of overhead expenses. Allocates overhead for internal and external reporting.
    • Prepares budget variance analysis reports.
    • Assists, as needed, general accounting functions such as payroll, billing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
    • Assists in annual financial audit, including preparation of audit schedules.
    • Assists with preparation of cost reports, grant budgets, and FSR’s as relevant to general ledger information.
    • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by the Controller or CFO.

    Must have the ability to plan, initiate and complete work assignments with a minimum of direction; understand and apply legal requirements and administrative policies to departmental accounting functions; interpret and analyze complex fiscal data and draw logical conclusions; detect possible weaknesses of internal control of standard accounting procedures and recommend revisions; verbally communicate accounting procedures and policies to staff and others; write memos and reports clearly and concisely; use personal computer applications including spreadsheet software; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

    EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
    • Minimum of five years’ experience in general accounting with two years of supervisory experience.
    • CPA preferred or substantial experience in similar position. 
    • Ten key calculator by touch. PC spreadsheet and word processing experience.  A combination of training, education
    • Experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities may be substituted.
    • Position requires experience using and managing high-level accounting software, preferably ACCPAC. 
    • Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform statistical analysis
    • English required; English/Spanish preferred.
