    General Summary

    The Patient Transporter operates low-rise elevators to transport and assist patients, employees and visitors between floors of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

    Principal Responsibilities

    1. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Illinois Driver’s License as well as a motor vehicle record without any violations.
    2. Controls movement of elevator on signal or instruction from passengers or others.
    3. Assists patients in entering and leaving the elevator (i.e. transporting wheelchairs/carts and equipment or controlling elevator door for ambulatory patients) to ensure patient safety.
    4. Identifies and responds to patient emergencies as appropriate.
    5. Performs housekeeping duties to ensure elevator is clean and neat at all times.
    6. Supplies information to patients such as location of clinics and therapies and scheduled activities of the day.
    7. Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

    Reporting Relationships

    1. Reports directly to Manager, Central Supply & Distribution.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

    1. Work requires demonstrated the ability to closely follow written and verbal directions.
    2. Receive on-the-job training involving operating of various transport devices such as wheelchairs
    3. Interpersonal skills necessary to deal with patients, employees and visitors to promote good customer relations.

    Working Conditions

    1. Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
