  • Responsibilities

     

     

    Our clinical gait specialist position is for a physical therapist with expertise and a strong passion for gait training, primarily with neurologically involved patients. These therapists have expert knowledge in the assessment of gait impairments and are well versed in evidence-based practice for the implementation of gait training in a variety of orthopedic and neurological diagnoses. Experience with various gait training modalities such as body-weight support systems (treadmill, overground) and other gait technologies is preferred but not required. Additionally, a strong background in the assessment and recommendation of orthotics is preferred. This role also has a focus on research and clinical collaboration as well as knowledge translation in the organization.  Board certification in neurologic physical therapy preferred, but not required.

     

    The primary patient diagnoses include stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries, severe multi-traumas, brain tumors and cancers. Additional diagnoses may be: multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Guillain-Barre, cardiac, transplants, and general medicine diagnoses as well as some orthopedic injuries.

    Required Skills Required Experience

     

    1. Completion of a Master’s or Doctorate degree program from an accredited college or university.
    2. Current Illinois License to practice as a physical therapist.
    3. Approximately 2 years of experience preferred but not required.
    4. Current CPR certification required.
