    GENERAL SUMMARY

    The CT Radiographer will perform computed tomography and related procedures according to established protocols to demonstrate sectional anatomic images for interpretation by or at the request of a licensed practitioner.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    THE CT RADIOGRAPHER WILL:

    1. Performs computed tomography and related procedures according to established protocols to demonstrate sectional anatomic images for interpretation by or at the request of a licensed practitioner.  
    2. Provides appropriate patient care in accordance with industry standards, department protocols and hospital policies and procedures, recognizing patient's conditions essential for successful completion of the procedures.  
    3. Performs POC Creatinine testing prior to any contrast studies, if warranted.
    4. Evaluates the request for procedures and assesses the patient to determine the appropriate procedure protocol and method of application.  
    5. Cares for the patient throughout the procedure according to department and hospital standards of patient care, age-specific sensitivities, and "patients first" guidelines.  
    6. Evaluates the resultant images in comparison with industry standards referring to appropriate reference materials for clarification when needed.  
    7. Provides patient education in the form of written material and/or verbal explanation prior to, during and subsequent to the procedure in order to reduce patient anxiety and enhance to comfort zone with and tolerance of the procedure.  
    8. Performs imaging procedures in accordance with safe radiation safety practices as determined by the Illinois Emergency Management Administration to limit radiation exposure to patient, self and other members of the healthcare team.  
    9. Performs preliminary interpretation by applying independent judgment, customizing the procedure accordingly, and expediting intervention by the radiologist, if necessary.  
    10. Notifies physicians as required of changes in the condition of the patients or regarding unique imaging characteristics. 
    11. Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

    1. Reports directly to the Manager, Diagnostic and Support Services

     

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

    1. Associates Degree in Radiologic Technology from an accredited Radiologic Technology program or equivalent work experience of five years or more
    2. Certification in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology
    3. Certification or certification eligible ARRT (CT)
    4. Active license with Illinois Emergency Management Department of Nuclear Safety Administration
    5. CPR certification
    6. Excellent interpersonal verbal communication skills.
    7. Demonstrates a level of flexibility to accommodate daily schedules and high level of productivity.

     

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    1. Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
