    Undergraduate/ Graduate Research Internship

     

     

    The Center for Rehabilitation Outcomes Research (CROR) at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab provides an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in disability-related research to develop and apply research skills. The goal of the fellowship is to identify individuals interested in careers in disability research and to provide with training alongside disability research experts working at CROR. Fellows will be awarded at $1500 stipend per semester (Fall, Spring, or Summer), and are expected to work approximately 6-8 hours each week. Each fellow will be assigned a mentor at CROR and will support existing research activities related to the Home and Community-Based Services project. Fellows may have the opportunity to participate in research conferences and webinars, and may be able to co-author research publications and white papers.

     

    The main responsibilities for a research fellow include:

     

    • Support literature and informational reviews for projects related to:
      • HCBS outcome measurement
      • Person-centered practices and competencies
      • Effectiveness of trainings for HCBS providers
      • Health equity
      • Public display of data on HCBS
    • Support data collection
      • Review documents related to HCBS service provision and extract key data elements
    • Support qualitative data analysis
      • Code focus group transcripts and interview transcripts to generate key themes
    • Support quantitative data analysis
      • Analyze survey results from REDCap and other data collection forms to generate major findings
    • Support dissemination of research results
      • Assist with development of abstracts and presentations for conferences, manuscripts for publication, issue briefs, webinars, podcasts, infographics, and other knowledge translations activities

     

     

    Reporting Relationships

    1. Reports directly to the Research Scientist, Principal Investigator or Project Manager, but may be additionally mentored by a graduate student or post-doctoral fellow, depending on department structure.

     

     

    Working Conditions

     

    1. Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.

     

    Required Skills Required Experience

     

    1. Good academic standing in undergraduate/graduate program
    2. Graduate or undergraduate study in public health, disability studies, psychology, medicine, nursing, social work, or related field
    3. Proficiency with computer programs (Microsoft Office required, familiarity with NVivo, Dedoose, Stata, R, SAS, or SPSS preferred)
    4. Previous experience with research methods through either coursework or experience in research labs
    5. Strong written and oral communication skills
    6. Strong analytical skills
    7. Strong interpersonal skills
    8. Interest in disability research
