Through research, education, and advocacy SPUR promotes good planning and good government. SPUR is a non-profit membership organization that draws support from individuals, corporations, and foundations. The person in this position would operate out of the SPUR Urban Center in San Francisco. General Summary SPUR is seeking a San Francisco Homeless Policy Intern to advance SPUR's Homeless Policy research, advocacy and education work in the City. Homelessness is one of the most important issues facing San Francisco and the Policy Intern will support the San Francisco Director through research, analysis, interviews, and other data collection. The Policy Intern will assist in drafting a white paper based on this research which outlines the numerous underlying issues that contribute to homelessness in the City, and proposes viable solutions to address it. The Policy Intern will report to the San Francisco Director and work with closely SPUR staff, city staff, social service agencies, other advocacy partners, funding partners, and SPUR policy board members and to accomplish SPUR's work. Essential Functions Research * Conduct data research on existing homeless statistics in the City * Follow up with City staff members, service providers and other stakeholders to verify data and ensure accuracy of information * Do original homelessness analysis: lead the development of maps, tables, graphics to explain homelessness problems and solutions * Perform meta-research of academic research, government documents, other sources Writing * Support San Francisco Director through original drafting of white paper summarizing research data * Follow up with key stakeholders as needed to ensure accuracy of information and incorporation of qualitative or subjective viewpoints not reflected in data * Perform additional research, writing and editing as needed Relationships * Manage relationships with SPUR community Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's degree * Project management experience bringing a project from conception/planning stages through to implementation and completion * Experience volunteering or working with a nonprofit/mission-based organization or social enterprise. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Ability to understand complex problems and passion to help solve them * Strong writing and research skills * Ability to interview industry leaders and key stakeholders * Experience managing data sets * Responsible, responsive, resourceful, works collaboratively * Ability to develop new partnerships * Proactive: knows how and when to asks questions * Demonstrated ability to manage projects and teams, meet deadlines and follow through * Strong record of professionalism and experience with work that requires tact and judgement Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Meeting planning and facilitation Stipend and Benefits Stipend is to be determined depending upon experience. This is a temporary, hourly, non-exempt position with flexible hours. Monthly commuter benefit will be provided.
