    We are searching for the best talent for a Senior R &D Engineer, Sensor Systems position, to be located in Santa Clara, CA.

    Job Description:

    We are seeking a Sr. R&D engineer/scientist to join our Sensor Systems team. The Sr. R&D Engineer – Sensor Systems will lead electromagnetic tracking sub-system (HW/SW) evaluation, including performance metrics, design verification, and intended use validation, for sensors and sensor systems embedded in robotic endoscopy products. The position will work cross-functionally with instruments & accessories design engineers, capital hardware engineers, test engineers, reliability engineers, software engineers, system integration engineers, quality engineering, and clinical engineers. The Sr R&D engineer – Sensor Systems will require a base of broad, multi-disciplinary experience. For those disciplines not previously proficient, the candidate should be willing and driven to master in the position.

    You will be responsible for:

    • Analyze position-tracking systems for all attributes and considerations
    • Design custom sensors for optimal fit, performance, reliability, yield, and cost
    • Evaluate low-cost off-the-shelf sensors
    • Analyze and lead efforts to solve sensor signal noise
    • Innovate to overcome sensing challenges
    • Explore and evaluate new technologies
    • Develop test methods, execute, and report tests and engineering studies
    • Apply statistical and problem-solving analysis methods
    • Collaborate cross-team and cross-functionally
    • Present technical information, clearly and understandably
    • Coach more junior colleagues in techniques, processes, and responsibilities.​
    • Understand and apply Johnson & Johnson’s Credo and Leadership Imperatives in day-to-day interactions with team.

    Qualifications / Requirements:

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable engineering discipline or closely related field

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Proficiency in a plurality (2+) of:
      • Physics (Electro-Magnetics)
      • Mathematics (Vector & Matrix Calculus, Linear Systems)
      • Systems/Robotics Engineering (Complex system integration)
      • Real-Time Systems
      • Electrical Engineering
      • Software Engineering (firmware through to GUI)
      • Mechanical Engineering
    • Aptitude in Euclidean 3-Space (R3) visualization, Euler attitude
    • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in or around sensing for closed-loop control
    • Experience in software development of C/C++ and MATLAB
    • Knowledge of Quaternions
    • Experience in solid modeling CAD (SolidWorks)

    Preferred Skills & Experience:

    • Advanced degree in Engineering/Physics/Math
    • Medical device product development
    • Technologies for sensing: AMR, EM, Optical, Inertial, ultra-sound, etc.
    • Techniques: DSP, Multivariate Analysis, Kalman filters, Sensor Fusion, PCA
    • Apps/SW: Minitab, Python

    California Bay Area - The anticipated base pay range for this position is $121,000 - $194,350

    The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

    Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.

    Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

    This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.

    Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

    • Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year
    • Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
    • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year
    • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
