Chaplain Associate Location: St. Dominic Hospital Department: PASTORAL SERVICES - 9570 Employment Type: PRN Shift: Day Other Shift Details: Job Code: 7081 ------------ Description Job Summary--Provides spiritual counseling and guidance to patients, families, and staff and performs or arranges for religious services to meet patients' needs. Essential Functions: Select and offer morning prayer as well as half hour morning devotions twice a week. Visits with patients on all units. Spend time with those requesting time or those with special spiritual needs. Take referrals from unit staff. Bring communion to Catholic patients when requested and deemed appropriate. Conduct prayer services monthly and seasonally. Individuals or departments may request a special session. Attend wakes and/or funerals of patients, families and staff. Completes medical chart documentation as indicated. Maintain clothes closet with aid of volunteers. Distribute with the help of staff. Oversee Prayer Room. Place appropriate literature in the Prayer Room and front lobby. Distribute Bibles when requested. Maintain bulletin board in order to communicate efficiently deaths, sickness and congratulations of staff and patients. Supports and interprets hospitals Christian mission, philosophy and objective. Maintains confidentiality of patients and other pertinent information. Qualifications Courses/training in psychology, nursing and sociology, with bachelors degree preferred. Prefer at least one year of previous experience in parish or pastoral ministry, and ordination by recognized religious body and endorsement by the proper ecclesiastical authority. Must demonstrate ability to recognize patients individual needs based on medical conditions, age (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle aged, and geriatric), limitations and planned procedures. This position has been determined to have an occasional or very low risk of occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens. It is occasionally subject to irregular hours.
