Performs beginning level direct care functions in the care and habilitation of individuals with developmental disabilities, on assigned unit under supervision of the Residential Services Supervisor during trainee period. Mental Health Technician 1 Under immediate supervision, performs beginning level duties on a unit in the direct care of individuals, i.e., bathing, personal hygiene, heavy lifting, heavy carrying and pushing of wheelchairs; participates in the implementing of individuals' habilitation plans. Ensures compliance with Illinois Department of Public Health requirements when performing duties. Mental Health Technician II Under direct supervision, performs duties in a designated living or work area for the care, treatment or habilitation and development of individuals with intellectual disabilities; provides and/or monitors personal care services for individuals such as bathing, toileting, feeding, food preparation and dressing; carries out a portion of activity therapy programs by teaching and engaging individuals in planned educational, vocational, recreational and social activities. Participates and provides support in the on-the-job training of less experienced Mental Health Technicians. Functions as shift charge in the absence of higher level Mental Health Technicians. Ensures compliance with Illinois Department of Public Health requirements when performing duties. Minimum Requirements Mental Health Technician Trainee Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school. Requires the ability to participate in and successfully complete a comprehensive training program. Requires ability to implement training programs and procedures for individuals with developmental disabilities. Mental Health Technician 1 Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school. Requires successful completion of a comprehensive training program at the Mental Health Technician Trainee level. Requires working knowledge of nursing care, first aid and personal and environmental hygiene. Requires elementary knowledge of Human Services rules and established individual care and treatment programs. Requires skill and ability to provide basic personal and nursing care services for individuals with mental intellectual or developmental disabilities. Requires ability to participate in routine programs of care, treatment and habilitation. Mental Health Technician II Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school. Requires successful completion of an approved training program and six months experience in or applicable to the care, treatment or habilitation of individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Requires working knowledge of Human Services rules and established individual care and treatment programs. Requires skill and ability to provide required personal and nursing services and procedures and techniques geared toward treatment, development and habilitation.
