    Environmental Health Specialist III - Opt 1 Salary $4,377.00 - $6,581.00 Monthly Location Champaign County, IL Job Type Full-Time Department Public Health Job Number IDPH 53-19-0148 Closing 1/10/2019 5:00 PM Central Description of Duties/Essential Functions Under direction, independently performs complex environmental public health investigations, collects samples, investigates complaints and provides detailed technical reports and letters to enforce compliance of applicable federal and state environmental health laws, regulations, policies and procedures within the Division of Environmental Health. Minimum Requirements Requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college with 30 semester hours in the physical or biological sciences. Requires three years of professional experience in environmental health practice. Requires extensive knowledge of biology, chemistry, and microbiology, as they relate to environmental health and safety. Requires extensive knowledge of environmental public health principles and practices. Requires extensive knowledge of state and federal laws and department rules relating to the preservation of public health and safety against environmental hazards, the maintenance of sanitary conditions in public use areas, and the prevention and control of communicable diseases which are caused or spread by environmental factors. Requires ability to explain and interpret pertinent state and federal laws, regulations and requirements as well as department policies to persons involved in the inspection and investigation processes and to the general public. Requires extensive knowledge of field sampling and equipment and testing techniques. Requires ability to independently conduct difficult and complex field inspections, surveys and re-inspections to determine eligibility for licensure or certification and/or assess compliance with applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations. Requires ability to prepare complex technical records, reports and correspondence. Requires the ability to travel extensively within the State and the possession of a valid Illinois driver's license.
