    Natural Resources Specialist - Opt 4 Salary $4,377.00 - $6,581.00 Monthly Location Johnson County, IL Job Type Full-Time Department Natural Resources Job Number 12-48-5664 Closing 1/10/2019 5:00 PM Central Description of Duties/Essential Functions Under general supervision of the Regional Manager, as District Natural Heritage Biologist, administers, manages, and implements the Division's natural heritage programs in Southern Illinois. Provides professional planning and management expertise and consultation to both the public and private sectors in natural areas preservation and management, endangered and threatened species protection and recovery, non-game species ecology, aquatic biology, and natural area management; conducts biological resource inventories, analyzes data collected, and formulates long-term comprehensive plans for the management of those resources. Minimum Requirements Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of a Master's Degree in Natural Resource Management or a Bachelor's Degree in the field supplemented by two years of directly related professional experience. Requires familiarity with Midwestern flora, fauna, and ecological communities and their conservation needs. Requires knowledge of the threatened and endangered species of northern Illinois and knowledge of species recovery. Requires ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with representatives from other DNR offices and divisions, other state agencies, federal agencies, conservation groups and organizations and the general public. Ability to organize time and manage multiple projects with a minimum of direct supervision. Requires the ability to work under adverse environmental conditions and their ability to lift loads that exceed sixty pounds, to traverse rough and broken terrain on foot without mechanical assistance, and to negotiate a variety of natural obstacles carrying a variety of technical equipment. Requires a valid Illinois class D driver's license. Requires ability to obtain a Public Applicator License for the application of pesticides. Requires ability to obtain Illinois Burn Boss Certification. Skill in using word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation, and mapping software programs (e.g., Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and ArcMap) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) strongly desired.
