    Job Description

    The Student Placement Coordinator coordinates and supports student placement activities across the organization in collaboration with academic partners and internal department leaders. This role serves as a key liaison between schools of all programs and hospital departments to ensure successful, timely, and compliant student experiences. In addition to managing student placements, the coordinator supports the Education Department in key programs such as new team member orientation, BLS, and CPI.

    • Acts as primary liaison to University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health in regard to local nursing schools and other clinical or nonclinical education programs.
    • Coordinates clinical placements for students in collaboration with academic institutions and internal departments.
    • Oversees all school-affiliated and contractual student placement; and initiates and facilitates affiliation agreements in partnership with University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) and UMMS General Counsel.
    • Manages and updates the Exxat student reservation platform to maintain accurate records of student schedules, documentation, and onboarding compliance.
    • Communicates regularly with academic partners, hospital leadership, and unit managers to confirm placement needs, timelines, and expectations.
    • Collaborates with unit and departmental leadership and preceptors to ensure student placement capacity, instructor readiness, and clinical learning alignment.
    • Facilitates student and instructor onboarding processes, including background checks, health requirements, orientation scheduling, and compliance documentation.
    • Reviews and updates clinical practice information in onboarding materials for students and instructors.
    • Supports UMMS student and preceptor strategic initiatives to advance academic partnerships locally and systemwide.
    • Coordinates and supports practicum placements, ACE (Academic Clinical Educator) programs, and the P-3 Program.
    • Assists in recruiting hospital employees to serve as ACE instructors in partnership with Nursing Leadership.
    • Supports the planning and facilitation of new team member orientation and other Education Department programs such as BLS and CPI.
    • Ensures Joint Commission compliance in all areas related to student coordination and instructor onboarding.
    • Tracks and reports data for student placements, social accountability, program evaluations, and onboarding participation to support continuous quality improvement and strategic planning.
    • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • 4 years / Bachelor's degree (Required).
    • Experience in working in an acute care setting, academic partnership coordination, or new team member orientation support is preferred.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with academic institutions, clinical staff, and students.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and ability to learn education or scheduling platforms.
    • Ability to collect, manage, and analyze data for reporting and decision-making.
    • Effective problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with internal teams and external academic partners.
    • Ability to work independently while also collaborating as part of a larger team.
    • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and environments in a dynamic healthcare setting.
    • Ability to facilitate meetings and coordinate logistics for education-related events.
