Doctoral Psychology Intern provides mental health services to child, adolescent and adult inpatient and outpatient (Partial Hospitalization Program/Intensive Outpatient Program) clients and their families under the direct supervision of the staff Psychologist I and II. All services provided by the Doctoral Psychology Intern, for example individual and group psychotherapy, psychological consultation and testing, risk assessment and crisis intervention, will be supervised by a Psychologist I or II. Doctoral Interns also receive weekly didactic training and accumulate the required training hours needed to sit for licensure in CA set by the CA Board of Psychology; The Doctoral Psychology Intern performs other duties as assigned. Receives training from the clinical psychology staff and gains practical experience by observing and conducting psychological evidence based interventions in individual and group therapy with children, adolescents and adults; involved in other psychological methods of behavior modification; administers, scores, and interprets psychological tests; conducts psychosocial assessment; collaborates with client to create a safety plan and assesses for safety; consults with psychiatrists and other multidisciplinary team members; interviews clients and conducts collaterals interviews when appropriate for treatment and evaluations; provides psychosocial assessment which includes testing, interpretation, report writing and feedback to clients, family and treating providers; is involved in crisis intervention and risk management of clients; gains supervised experience in other clinical experiences as assigned; adheres to APA standards and competencies; Demonstrates understanding of DSM IV Diagnostic Criteria for Disorders in Children, Adolescents and adults. This is a limited-term position with an anticipated duration of approximately one year. **Education: ** * Must be a current doctoral-level student in a accredited counseling or clinical psychology program * Must be certified by the academic program as being ready for an internship, meeting academic requirements and accumulating a certain amount of practicum hours Knowledge: * Knowledge of the basic principles and techniques of clinical psychology * Knowledge and adherence to APA competencies * Basic skills in evidence based clinical practices and methods * Ability to plan, implement, evaluate and report/document activities conducted * Ability to communicate effectively in writing and to prepare written reports * Ability to communicate orally, both in person and by telephone * Ability to establish rapport with others as a requisite for healthy and therapeutic relationships * Ability to present oneself in an appropriately personable and professional manner to peers and staff * Ability to receive and utilize constructive feedback regarding performance, presentation and relationships with others * Ability to be both and flexible as circumstances warrant * Ability to effectively weigh and evaluate personal needs, client needs and the aims and policies of the agency and to respond and negotiate these competing needs as appropriate * Ability to remain calm and supportive in psychological emergencies and/or crises when provided with appropriate supervision and direction * An enhanced level of self-awareness as to how he or she relates to others and an ability to effectively modulate this personal style as conditions warrant * Ability to communicate via computer email * Thorough knowledge of human development, psychological treatment, and intervention modalities with children, adolescents and adults is required * Must have knowledge of and adherence to American Psychological Association ethical standards * Must have knowledge of the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, and psychotherapeutic modalities and interventions * Must adhere to supervision and didactic standards Experience: * Prior work experience providing individual and group therapy in an inpatient or outpatient psychiatric treatment setting preferred * Prior experience with crisis management and safety planning preferred * Prior experience providing psychological assessment/testing/consultation highly preferred * Prior work experience working with children, adolescents, adults and their families is preferred Skills: * Solid clinical and assessment skills preferred * Professionalism, clear communication, organization and time management skills Physical Requirements: * Adequate hearing for perceiving/interpreting verbal communications without seeing the speaker is required * Must demonstrate clear speech delivery to enable listeners to understand verbal communications * Sufficient physical agility and endurance * Must have the ability to remain seated for at least one hour to complete interview/therapeutic sessions **Primary Location: **California-Greater Sacramento Area-Sacramento **Work Locations: ** **Organization: **Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento
