    Robotics & Digital Solutions is a part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, is recruiting for a Systems Integration Engineer with a focus on mechatronics systems, located in Santa Clara, CA.

J&J Robotics was established in 2020 with the integration of Auris Health, Verb Surgical, C-SATS, and Ethicon. It comprises three key med-tech platforms: Flexible Robotics (MONARCH®), Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA™), and Digital Solutions.     The Systems Integration Engineer will support sustaining and development of OTTAVA's robotic surgical subsystems. The primary focus of this position is planning and implementation of subsystem integration activities, including bring-up of proof-of-concepts and initial builds. The candidate will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, robotics controls and software engineers in root-cause analysis and documentation of design, manufacturing and algorithmic flaws in order to increase subsystem reliability. The candidate will also assist in development of new hardware functional test methods, and conducting engineering studies to characterize feasibility and stability.     Core Job Responsibilities:

    • Plan and implement subsystem-level integration activities for proof-of-concepts

    • Analyze, root cause, resolve and document novel integrative issues that arise from subsystems of focus by collaborating with various teams

    • Support development and feasibility demonstration of new test methods and fixtures for subsystem-level integration uses and/or functional test processes

    • Conduct engineering studies to de-risk the design ranging from proof-of-concepts to product candidates, analyze results and provide meaningful feedback to design teams

    Qualifications:

    One of the following combinations of education and years of experience are required:

    A.) a BS Engineering (Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Robotics) or equivalent areas in combination with 2+ years of related experience,

    B.) An advanced degree (e.g.MS, PhD) Engineering (Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Robotics) or equivalent in combination with 1+ year experience is required.

    Qualifications continued:

    • Hands-on experience with electromechanical systems design, implementation and integration is required.

    • Experience working with electrical sensors and mechanical actuators is required.

    • Basic skills in Python and/or C++ programming is required.

    • Previous experience planning and implementing subsystem-level integration activities for proof-of-concepts is preferred

    • A proven ability to analyze, root cause, resolve and document novel integrative issues that arise from subsystems of focus by collaborating with various teams is highly beneficial.

    • Previous experience supporting the development and feasibility demonstration of new test methods and fixtures for subsystem-level integration uses and/or functional test processes is an asset.

    • Previous experience conducting engineering studies to de-risk the design ranging from proof-of-concepts to product candidates, analyzing results and providing meaningful feedback to design teams is very beneficial.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    • Ability to work in a regulated environment in compliance to ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820 is highly preferred.

    • Ability and willingness to work on site in Santa Clara CA is required.

    The anticipated base pay range for this position is 130,00 to 165,600. California Bay Area.
