Caravan Studios is a division of TechSoup, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in San Francisco, CA. We use technology so that communities can organize, access and connect to the resources they need. We build apps for social good and we build them along with the communities that need them and that includes our interns. For the last four years, the team at Caravan Studios has increased the public good by creating technology that reimagines how communities can access and use resources to respond to their most pressing issues. We have discovered projects are creating change across communities, across borders, and across languages and we are involved in that discovery. About our Internship Program Our Internship program has been recognized by multiple Universities, as offering a unique and innovative opportunity to their students. We combine practical real world experience, formal and informal mentoring activities, as well as networking and community building skills. Although our internships are unpaid, we support students pursuing college credit and in some cases, scholarships through their University career centers and academic departments. The Public Good App House Project We all want to make a better world and this internship will give you a way to work towards that goal. The Public Good App House initiative aims to increase the reach of public good technology project; and, share information to understand our collective impact. On a regular basis we host both live and online, Public Good App House events where we bring together community members representing NGOs, corporations, government agencies, and technology development groups to watch demos of up to 7 public good technology projects. These events have been held in San Francisco, CA, USA; Washington, D.C., USA; Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brasil; Oakland, CA, USA; and Belo Horizonte, MG, Brasil; among other cities. They are exciting, engaging and inspiring events and provide a great environment for learning, sharing and discovering where apps for social good are being developed. This internship will focus on assisting the Caravan team in exploring, identifying and documenting app developers partners, sponsors, funders and community members who are exploring and identifying solutions to their communities most pressing problems. Responsibilities For this internship Caravan Studios is searching for a student who want to explore, engage, research and identify community innovations and resources in specific target areas. Experience and interest in community engagement, design thinking and community organizing will be an asset in this position. Students will explore best practices and resources in target areas, as well as develop educational and marketing materials to highlight the Public Good App House project and communities we serve. Skills and Qualifications * Ability to clearly organize and synthesize research results * Excellent writing, presentation, and analytical skill * Excellent communications skills with the ability to work efficiently with a wide variety of professionals * Strong problem solving skills * Simple graphic design skills a plus * Interest and experience in working in fast-paced, community driven environments * Educational background or work experience in Social Work, Research, Business, Communications, Marketing and Sales, or similar field * Experience using and exploring mobile apps * Experience in social media tools and third-party sites to interact with social media Internship Eligibility All interns must be enrolled in a college class or program and should have an overall grade point average of 3 (B or better); and ideally can receive academic credit or a scholarship for the internship.
