    GENERAL SUMMARY

     

    The Reimbursement Coordinator II will work to ensure timely and accurate disposition on accounts receivables for Shirley Ryan Ability Lab physicians. The Reimbursement Coordinator II will perform functions that assist in reducing the open receivables, including complex billing, collections, appeals and/cash posting, ensuring compliance with insurance payers, Shirley Ryan AbilityLab policies and good customer service to our patients.

    The Reimbursement Coordinator II will consistently demonstrate support of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    THE REIMBURSEMENT COORDINATOR II:

    1. Processes billing for all financial classes including Commercial, Federal and State plans.
    2. Clears billing edits
    3. Tracks claim status via online portals and via phone
    4. Composes and follows up on claim appeals
    5. Identifies, addresses, submits, or processes adjustments, over payments and outstanding balances
    6. Reviews insurance explanation of benefits to facilitate account resolution
    7. Allocates co-insurance and deductibles appropriately within the Cerner system
    8. Reviews and addresses incoming mail correspondence
    9. May provide assistance and support regarding charity care guidelines to Shirley Ryan AbilityLab physicians and hospital operational leadership
    10. Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

    Reporting Relationships

    1. Reports directly to the Manager, Patient Financial Services

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

    1. Educational level appropriate with what is typically gained through the acquisition of a High School Diploma. Associates degree preferred.
    2. Minimum 3 years of experience with hospital billing and/or collecting from health insurance carriers, working on assignments that require judgement in resolving issues or in making recommendations.
    3. Has substantial understanding of the job, and applies knowledge of governmental billing regulations including UB-04 and HCFA 1500 billing regulations to complete a wide range of tasks.
    4. Previous experience with functions and responsibilities associated with coordination of charity preferred
    5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across internal departments.
    6. Ability to maintain HIPAA compliance, including strict confidentiality of patient personal information
    7. Ability to build relationships with insurance carriers and representatives
    8. Ability to maintain all production standards as outlined for assigned work
    9. Ability to keep up to date with insurance billing regulation changes as assigned.
    10. Ability to perform basic mathematical functions.

     

    Working Conditions

    1. Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
