    GENERAL SUMMARY

     

    The Nursing Informatics Coordinator is committed to tactical and strategic initiatives in which Information Systems will play a pivotal role both in providing systems support and in being an integral part of future services offered to Shirley Ryan AbilityLab patients and clients.

    Under general supervision, the Nursing Informatics Coordinator acts as the liaison between Nursing and the IT Department. They provide leadership on application utilization that ensures quality patient care outcomes. This position collaborates across teams to plan, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of systems and services.  They will work to ensure projects are implemented that support clinical practice, in addition to optimizing current technologies to ensure better integration with clinical workflows. They will leverage their own clinical knowledge to aid in diagnosing any problems and coordinating appropriate resources to find solutions.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Coordinates and leads clinical reference calls, virtual demonstrations, and on-site demonstrations and site visits for potential clients.
    2. Works with SRAlab clinical staff, Practice Councils and user groups to identify, justify and prioritize future department needs.
    3. Collaborates with Management and serves as a liason to clinicians in designing, testing, implementing and maintaining workflow and clinical systems.
    4. Educates staff as needed during and post-implementation.
    5. Participates in Post-implementation monitoring of adoption and use and continued improvement of clinical practice environments.
    6. Recommends innovative ideas, processes, and/or procedures for enhancements, additions, and modifications to improve existing systems based on clinical workflow and best practices.
    7. Monitors legal and regulatory changes and standards of practice and ensures required modifications are identified and implemented.
    8. Serves as a liaison to Cerner’s Rehabilitation` Strategic Council to guide evolution of clinical content, taking into consideration Cerner’s changing strategy/tools for online documentation.
    9. Serves on appropriate SRAlab committees as needed.
    10. Serves as clinical liaison to Data and Research Departments to help them understand processes and build.
    11. Maintains current knowledge of trends in information systems and clinical documentation systems.
    12. Develop strategies and best practices to incorporate into future information systems and policies.
    13. Other duties assigned as needed

     

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

    1. Reports to the Manager of Clinical Applications

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

    1. Current RN license, CRRN preferred.
    2. Healthcare Informatics certification preferred, but not required.
    3. Minimum of 5 years clinical experience required.
    4. Minimum 3 years working with IT department.
    5. Cerner or other major EMR workflow experience is preferred.
    6. Innovative thinking to find solutions for clinical problems.
    7. Working knowledge of regulatory changes that would impact nursing disciplines.
    8. Ability to learn and apply new concepts quickly.
    9. Skilled communicator and negotiator; able to resolve conflicts, disagreements, and misunderstandings.
    10. Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse groups within a team environment.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    1. Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
