  • Responsibilities

     

    The Lead Floater oversees patient care to patients from admission to discharge.  The Lead Floater is responsible for the direction, supervision, and evaluation of float therapy services and performance on the units.

     

    The Lead Floater will consistently demonstrate support of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.

    Principal Responsibilities

     

    The Lead Floater:

     

    1. Supervises and monitors appropriate staffing/productivity of inpatient floaters at 355 E. Erie across all inpatient units.
    2. Recruits, hires and coaches staff to ensure optimal performance and talent match for each program.
    3. Oversees orientation, training and professional growth and development needs of staff.
    4. Conducts performance appraisals with input from the medical director, allied health manager and nurse manager of each unit.
    5. Ensures compliance with regulatory agency standards.
    6. Participates in the development of operating and capital budgets and manages resources to budget and volume.
    7. Initiates and implements quality improvements in individual, team, and organizational performance and facilitates resolution of quality issues.
    8. Ensures that documentation is available for patients and in compliance with Shirley Ryan AbilityLab documentation standards.
    9. Communicates with patients, families and staff to ensure understanding and to minimize conflict.
    10. Manages or assigns designee to manage floater supervision as needed.
    11. Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

     

    Reporting Relationships

     

    1. Reports directly to the Manager, Innovation Center

     

     

    Working Conditions

     

    1. Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.

    Required Skills Required Experience

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

     

    1. Required degree to be licensed in physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech-language pathology.
    2. License to practice as a physical therapist, occupational therapist, or speech-language pathologist.
    3. Minimum 2 years related clinical work experience (rehabilitation experience preferred) with demonstrated ability to organize, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    4. Interpersonal skills necessary to provide leadership and communicate effectively with patients, families, and all levels of staff within the organization.
    5. Strong analytical skills required to assess, plan and implement strategies for successful unit management.
