    GENERAL SUMMARY

     

    The Lead Inpatient Scheduler reports to the Allied Health Manager for Inpatient Scheduling at Superior Street. The Lead Inpatient Scheduler oversees the staff and tasks necessary to create quality inpatient schedules daily. The Lead Inpatient Scheduler is responsible for hiring, supervision and evaluation of inpatient scheduling staff, and all tasks associated with the creation and delivery of inpatient schedules.

     

    The Lead Inpatient Scheduler consistently demonstrates support of the RIC Statement of Mission and Philosophy by striving for excellence, contributing to the team effort and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the Institute.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Directs, supervises and monitors appropriate staffing and productivity of inpatient schedulers at 345 Superior across all inpatient units.
    2. Recruits, hires and coaches staff to ensure optimal performance and talent match.
    3. Oversees orientation, training and professional growth and development needs of staff.
    4. Conducts performance appraisals to ensure accurate and timely evaluations with input from the allied health manager of each unit.
    5. Assures compliance with regulatory agency standards.
    6. Participates in the development of operating and capital budgets and manages resources to budget and volume.
    7. Initiates and implements quality improvements in individual, team and organizational performance utilizing RICQI, Lean and other mechanisms and facilitates resolution of quality issues.
    8. Maintains current knowledge of clinical practices, community resources and payor trends and shares that knowledge and skills as appropriate with staff.
    9. Maintains environment of care through personal and staff compliance with policies and procedures.
    10. Communicates effectively with staff to ensure a high level of satisfaction and to prevent and resolve conflict in a timely manner. Manages feedback regarding individual inpatient schedulers.
    11. Manages or assigns designee to manage scheduler supervision as needed.
    12. Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of RIC.

     

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

    Reports to the Allied Health Manager assigned to Inpatient Scheduling

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

    1. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities RequiredHigh School diploma, Associates Degree or Certificate in a Medical Administration Program or comparable program preferred.
    2. One to three years experience in a health care field with knowledge of rehabilitation hospital systems preferred including supervisory experience, with demonstrated ability to organize, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    3. Proficiency in Microsoft applications: intermediate level skills in the use of Outlook and Word and basic level skills in Excel.
    4. Proficient keyboarding skills: average data entry skills.  Strong understanding of data entry and ability to learn hospital information systems.
    5. Evidence of strong customer service skills/experience that match the RIC Experience standards.  Ability to interact with dignity and respect to all customers, whether internal or external.
    6. Effective verbal and written communication skills that convey a caring and competent professional attitude.
    7. Strong organizational skills necessary to efficiently prioritize and complete a variety of tasks.
    8. Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment to maximize quality and efficiency of operations.
    9. Ability to set priorities; flexibility to meet changing patient and system needs.
    10. Working knowledge of medical terminology.
    11. Ability to handle difficult individuals or situations in a professional and compassionate manner.
