    GENERAL SUMMARY

     

    The Sterile Supply Technician will clean, sterilize, decontaminate and assemble equipment, supplies, and instruments according to prescribed procedures and techniques. Wraps, labels, and seals instruments and supplies in preparation to autoclaving. Maintains inventories and provides to appropriate department heads.

    Principal Responsibilities

     

    The Sterile Supply Technician will:

    1. Decontaminate, assemble, sterilize and store procedure trays, instruments and supplies according to aseptic technique in adherence to safety and infection control standards
    2. Provide supplies and equipment to patient care areas
    3. Identify and address missing or broken equipment for repair or replacement
    4. Identify instruments for re-processing upon shelf-life expiration
    5. Perform quality assurance and biological tests on equipment and processes
    6. Document activities and quality test results
    7. Maintain inventories and provides to appropriate department heads.
    8. Educate new employees on the sterilization process.
    9. Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

    Required Skills Required Experience

     

    1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
    2. National (CBSPD) or International (IAHCSMM) certification is strongly desired
    3. Minimum 3 years of experience with thorough knowledge of aseptic technique, sterilization techniques and procedures, and infection control.
    4. Ability to maintain compliance with industry standards and guidelines.
    5. Proficient verbal and written communication skills
    6. Basic computer skills including inventory management software

     

    Reporting Relationships

     

    Reports directly to Manager, Infection Prevention

     

    Working Conditions

     

    1. Works in all areas of the facility, moving throughout the day
    2. Is subject to handling of and exposure to hazardous wastes and chemicals

  • Qualifications

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

    • Ability to safely and legally operate commercial motor vehicle equipment.

    • Ability to handle the pressure of deadlines, coupled with frequent interruptions.

    • Ability to work a flexible schedule.

    • Employee will be certified in-house to operate powered industrial vehicles, if applicable.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel.  The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.  The employee is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee may be exposed to heights up to 30 feet. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles, and can be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold including climates consistent with outside weather conditions.

     TRAINING

    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Current CDL License and Health Card.
    • Minimum 1 year of trailer moving experience.
    • Must have LTL dock experience.
    • Basic computer skills preferred.
