    GENERAL SUMMARY

    Systems Engineer provides technical and administrative support for SRALAB’s Server, Storage, Messaging, Database, and Virtualization infrastructure. The Systems Engineer provides primary support of all desktop management systems including Microsoft SCCM, Microsoft WSUS, SRALAB’s desktop imaging processes, end-point anti-virus, and desktop encryption. Provides primary support of SRALAB’s backup systems, tape library and printing services environment.

    Assists Senior Systems Engineer in supporting SRALAB’s server farm including messaging, authentication, virtual desktop, Citrix and terminal service infrastructure, Active Directory, messaging, MS SQL Server, Windows server, ESX server, and Redhat Linux technologies. Assists Senior Systems Engineer in supporting SRALAB’s storage infrastructure including, EMC Clariion SAN and EMC Celerra technologies. Installs and maintains server operating systems, database management systems, messaging applications, web servers, network and server management systems, storage and virtualization systems.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    1. Provides direct network support for SRALAB’s server, database, messaging and storage systems. This includes the server and storage hardware (servers, disk arrays, cabling, etc.), operating system installation and configuration, and application installation and support.
    2. Designs and implements systems solutions to support SRALAB business activities.
    3. Supports business critical financial and reporting applications based on Microsoft Dynamics GP, Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Reporting Services, and IIS.
    4. Supports and develops Windows network operating system environment and provide tier-2 and tier-3 support for daily administrative tasks including user accounts, directory services/domain environments, printing environment, and network security. Take immediate action to ensure adequate system performance and security.
    5. Supports and develops SRALAB’s Cerner ancillary systems, including PACS, RX Station, Caremobile, and Centralized Scanning systems.
    6. Provides escalation support of SRALAB’s EMC Legato, EMC Replication Manager, and VMWare VCB backup systems.
    7. Assists in the development, implementation, and testing of disaster avoidance and recovery policies and procedures.
    8. Document all system hardware and OS components (inventories, configuration, etc.) software (licenses, configurations, etc.) and cabling configuration in narrative and graphic form.
    9. Develops and supports SRALAB’s network management platforms based on IBM’s NetCool and Microsoft’s SCCM products.
    10. Ensures continuity of network service to all users. Provide diagnostic and corrective services for all network systems 24 hours a day, seven days a week.   Provide on-call / pager support on a rotational basis.
    11. Documents systems changes using ITIL best practices.
    12. Provides tier-2 support to SRALAB end-users and escalation support to the SRALAB Help Desk. Provides direct phone support for callers to the Help Desk on a rotational basis.
    13. Perform routine server and security-related maintenance activities, and document completion.
    14. Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of SRALAB.

     

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

     

    1. Reports to Director, IS Operations

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

     

    1. Requires knowledge of computer technology and information management concepts typically acquired through completion of a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other closely related field.
    2. A minimum of three years professional experience in a corporate IT environment developing and supporting a medium to large network required.
    3. Technical certifications from Microsoft at the MCSE/MCITP levels or higher are required.
    4. Administrative experience with Active Directory, Windows Server, Windows SQL Server, Windows Print Services, and Microsoft Exchange is required. MCITP or MCSE is required.
    5. Experience with VMWare, EMC Clariion / Celerra systems and EMC replication technologies are preferred.
    6. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics / Great Plains and related products are desirable.
    7. Experience with Cerner ancillary systems (e.g. PACS, Caremobile, RX Station, and Centralized Scanning) is desirable.
    8. Administrative experience with Enterprise Anti-Virus and Anti-SPAM products, SQL query language, SQL Reporting Services, IIS, and Microsoft SCCM is highly preferred.
    9. Solid understanding of the following network protocols and technologies: HTTP, SMTP, SNMP, DHCP, VLANs.
    10. Proficiency in the analysis of network and application performance through the use of protocol analyzers, syslogs, NT/2K event logs, and SNMP traps.
    11. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with user departments concerning network/PC support, training and issues as well as a variety of external contacts.
    12. Analytical skills necessary to analyze business problems and apply computer technology to resolve same and/or increase operational efficiency of PCs in a networking environment.
    13. Works independently of close supervision on highly technical and complex subject matter.
    14. Ability to transport and move PCs, printers, and related hardware weighing up to 30 pounds.

     

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    1. Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
    2. Prolonged exposure to video display terminal.
    3. Ability to transfer and lift hardware weighing up to 30 pounds.
