  • Responsibilities

    The Research Laboratory Manager will manage a group of related projects and relevant staff, including clinicians, scientists, and students.

     

    Manage the daily activities of a team of clinicians tasked with testing prosthetic, orthotic, and rehabilitation robotic devices as well as training individuals with disabilities on therapeutic exercise protocols.

     

    1. Assist with the performance evaluation of staff and provide regular feedback as needed.
    2. Assist scientists, physical therapists, prosthetists, orthotists, occupational therapists, and physicians to establish and document clinical study design and planning.
    3. Establish development roadmaps and track progress.
    4. Maintain IRB reviewed research study protocols and assist Principal Investigators in meeting project milestones.
    5. Contribute to new project plan development, cost estimation, and grant development.
    6. Manage the daily activities of the Rehab Technologies and Outcomes Lab (RT&O lab) which includes subject recruitment for research studies, handling student projects, data entry, analysis and storage.
    7. Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

     

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

    1. Bachelor’s degree in a health professions program like physical therapy, prosthetics & orthotics, etc. Masters degree or Doctoral degree preferred. Additional biomechanical, neuroscience or physiologies background a plus.
    2. Minimum 7 years of experience as a clinical or research health profession with proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative clinical outcome measures and standards.
    3. Experience with budget management.
    4. Clinical research support background.
    5. Experience with clinical use and training of prosthetic, orthotic and rehabilitation robotic devices.
    6. Proficiency and experience with use of current rehabilitation industry standard for training and treatment of disabilities using therapeutic exercise and assistive devices.
    7. Analytical abilities necessary to understand complex problems and to resolve these problems through the application of appropriate technologies; the ability to structure time to meet deadlines; and the ability to be flexible to changing design requirements and deliverables.
    8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Proficiency in the use of the metric system.
    • Able to navigate computer network systems and capability of using Microsoft Office.
    • Able to read, write and comprehend the English language; including blueprints and drawings.                                                  
    • Proficiency in the use basic measurement instruments and gages (calipers, micrometers, electronic indicators, height gages, scales, etc.)
    • Self-motivated and able to work independently or in a team environment with minimal supervision.
    • Ability and willingness to learn the technologies incorporate in elastomer products, product functions, and damper assembly methods and processes.
    • Ability to work in a dynamic, multi-tasking environment

    SKILL SUMMARY:

    Requires a thorough knowledge of shop math, machine and hand tools, measuring instruments and working properties of various metals. Employees must be thoroughly experienced in the construction, alteration or repair of all tools, dies, fixtures, and gauges. Requires a high degree of ability to plan and perform work of a difficult nature where only general methods of procedure are available. Tool & Die Makers must be able to work with only general supervision.

     

    DEMANDS SUMMARY:

    Frequent physical effort working with light to medium weight materials, occasional handling of heavy weight materials. Requires continuous application of thought and fairly continuous visual attention to plan and perform operations.

     

    CONDITIONS SUMMARY:

    Good working conditions; good light, heat and ventilation. Some contact with oil, chips, and machine noises. Tool & Die Makers are required to wear proper PPE and to adhere to all safety and environmental policies.
