    The Clinical Practice Leader – P&O will provide direct clinical care to patients requiring prosthetics and/or orthotics services and will manage the Residency Program for the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab Prosthetics Orthotics Clinical Center through NCOPE (the National Commission on Orthotics and Prosthetics Education). Serves as the liaison between Research and Prosthetics and Orthotics professionals and oversees the implementation of appropriate research and best practice throughout the organization.

    Principal Responsibilities

     

    The Clinical Practice Leader – P&O will:

    1. Provide clinical patient care as a certified, licensed Prosthetist and/or Orthotist.
    2. Manage the Residency Program, including development, planning, curricula, scheduling and related budgeting.
    3. Oversee recruitment and selection of Residents and evaluate selected Residents related to requirements and competencies, clinical operations, patient care outcomes and satisfaction.
    4. Complete and submit required quarterly, annual and multi-year reporting to CMS and NCOPE.
    5. Work with Compliance and P&O staff to maintain facility accreditation with NCOPE.
    6. Support the P&O Manager by supervising and coaching the clinical Prosthetists and Orthotists in their participation in the Residency Program as clinical mentors for residents.
    7. Advise P&O Manager and consult with other allied health leaders regarding practice change priorities, based on current evidence.
    8. Identify key requirements for treatment of specific patient populations (including specialty certifications) and guide staff pursuing advanced training toward appropriate coursework and educational opportunities.
    9. Recommend and oversee competency requirements in conjunction with other leaders in the department.  
    10. Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

    Required Skills Required Experience

     

    1. Bachelor’s degree in health-related discipline or business.
    2. Current certification as a Certified Orthotist and/or Prosthetist by the American Board for Certification in Prosthetics, Orthotics and Pedorthics.
    3. Current Illinois license to practice as a Certified Prosthetist or Certified Orthotist.
    4. Minimum two years of continued teaching or documented faculty support at an accredited P&O program.
    5. Minimum three years of experience working as a licensed CPO/CP/CO, preferably in a hospital based clinic.
    6. High degree of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills to interact with academic professionals, students, residents, patients, patient families, referring parties, center and other staff.
    7. Quantitative and analytical ability to evaluate organizational and financial performance, to develop marketing strategy and to forecast staffing needs.
    8. Proficient problem solving and decision making skills, with ability to confront and resolve issues

     

    Reporting Relationships

     

    Reports directly to the Manager, Clinical Operations – P&O

     

     

    Working Conditions

    Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
