    General Summary The Nurse Manager has primary responsibility for implementing the mission, vision, policies, goals and objectives of the organization and the nursing services within their area. As a liaison between nursing, and disciplines throughout the RIC system of care, the Nurse Manager promotes organizational goals, interdisciplinary and interdepartmental team collaboration. The Nurse Manager allocates fiscal and human resources appropriately to ensure the delivery of quality cost efficient care. Executive decision making occurs to ensure the efficient unit operations. The Nurse Manager consistently demonstrates support of the RIC statement of Mission and Philosophy by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute. Principal Responsibilities

    1. Commits to and attains high standards of excellence and innovation.
    2. Demonstrates financial and business acumen.
    3. Participates in the development of operating and capital budgets and manages resources to budget and volume.
    4. Directs, supervises and monitors appropriate staffing/productivity of assigned staff.
    5. Demonstrates a vision for own function, and acts with the broader benefit of RIC in mind.
    6. Analyzes, designs, plans, executes and oversees projects with own function, with other work groups and organizationally.
    7. Initiates and implements quality improvements in individual, team and organizational performance utilizing RICQI and other mechanisms and facilitates resolution of quality issues (i.e. response time, satisfaction, falls).
    8. Develops and optimizes the performance of team members, resulting in goal attainment, staff motivation and talent retention.
    9. Recruits hires and coaches staff to ensure optimal performance.
    10. Oversees orientation, training and professional growth and development needs of staff.
    11. Conducts performance appraisals to ensure accurate and timely evaluations.
    12. Establishes, builds, and sustains effective professional relationships.
    13. Communicates effectively with patients, families and staff to ensure a high level of satisfaction and to prevent and resolve conflict in a timely manner.
    14. Effectively leads teams and individuals to ensure execution of goals and projects.
    15. Maintains current knowledge of clinical practices and developments and shares that knowledge and skills as appropriate with staff.
    16. Pursues learning to continuously improve one's own leadership skills, shares knowledge liberally and acknowledges own development needs.
    17. In partnership with other nurse managers, provides policy and practice leadership within the organization.
    18. Supports the registered nurse in clinical roles of patient educator, caregiver, counselor, consultant, and patient advocate.
    19. Demonstrates competency in understanding the growth and development of infant, child, adolescent, young adult, middle-aged adult and geriatric patients as measured by specific performance standards and as described by department/unit policies and procedures. Demonstrates the ability to interpret growth and development related information to assure patient needs are met.
    20. Practices in accordance with professional practice standards and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
    21. Participates in professional development activities such as education programs, nursing committees and professional organizations that promote the improvement of nursing care and advance the profession of rehabilitation nursing.

    27. Bachelor's degree required. Masters degree preferred.
    28. Current Illinois license to practice, as a registered nurse is required.
    29. Current CPR certification required.
    30. Minimum two years progressively responsible experience in clinical nursing (rehabilitation experience preferred) including supervisory experience, with demonstrated ability to organize, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    31. Strong analytical skills required to assess, plan and implement strategies for successful unit management
    32. Communicates effectively using timely verbal, non-verbal and written communication to provide leadership, instruct patients/families/staff and to work cooperatively with other health care team members and to ensure fulfillment of requirements for legal documentation and reimbursement.
    33. Possesses the specialized knowledge and clinical skills necessary to oversee the care provided for people with physical disability and chronic illness.
    34. Demonstrates a high level of initiative and creative problem-solving.
    35. Proactively takes ownership for serving the customer, team and organization, for achieving goals and for resolving problems. Consistently does whatever it takes to ensure individual, departmental/team and organizational excellence.
    36. Willingly adapts to changing work demands and work environment.
    37. Demonstrates critical thinking skills and makes sound judgments to monitor and respond to patient and staff needs or changes in condition.
    38. Anticipates assesses and addresses the needs of patients, internal and external customers to positively influence the patient/customer experience (directly or indirectly). Working Conditions
    39. Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
